How long do your LOs sleep for at night?
« on: February 04, 2013, 21:21:02 pm »
Hi all

My DS and DD both seem to have a default 11 hour sleep setting.  DS is 3, DD is 7 months.

Can you train a child to sleep 12 hours or is it an innate thing?!

We did manage to get DS going from 19:30-07:00 with a Groclock, but he's reverted to 6am now coz he needs a wee!

Just curious about other children...

DS1 is 4 but he has always been quite a good sleeper. He sleeps 7-7 now, he usually does unless he is going through something developmental.
DS2 is only 4 months old and is still having a night feed but he is going down at 7.30 and this morning I had to wake him up at 7.30 :)

Im not sure about training them to sleep longer, does DS1 still nap?

I was going to ask the same about DS1 ;)

What are DDs naps like?  Has she dropped the CN yet?

DS has more or less dropped the nap - he falls asleep in the car some days, and today he fell asleep on the floor at nursery!  Bless him!  Yesterday no nap, and I thought he might sleep from 7pm-7am but he was up at 6am again.

The most we've got him to sleep is 7.30pm-7am, so not quite 12 hours.  DS is spirited though.

DD no CN today - bed by 7pm, still feeds once at night (no DF as this seemed to disturb her sleep pattern), she's text book though, so maybe I'll get 12 hours from her....

If DD still has the CN sometimes, at this age 11h at night is really all you can expect.  She may well do a longer night once you drop the CN consistently.  For DS have you tried a slightly earlier bedtime?  It may be that he needs a shorter day if he is dropping his nap in order to be able to do a longer night.  Most only do a 10.5/11h day when first dropping the nap to prevent OT and short nights or randomly falling asleep at unexpected times.  Have you checked out the dropping the nap support thread on toddler sleep?
