Yeah he is still on ranitidine. I have done gluten free which was very similar to wheat. Maybe I will try eggs starting tomorrow? I already read every label so I would just have to make sure nothing had eggs in. I think eggs would be easier to avoid than soy, there is soy in everything!

I wish there was an instruction manual with a list of 'foods to avoid' ;)

gluten free would encompass anything wheaty surely? So you are half way there! Eggs would be easier to avoid. Still read the labels obviously as like all these things they crop up in the most unlikley places! I found them in GF sausages the other day!  ::)

I think what a lot if people do is pick several fresh ingredients that they know don't contain what they are trying to avoid and rely heavily on them. Then as you get to know more you can add it some more known safe foods to your repertoire.

Lol! I went to a cocktail masterclass as part of the hen weekend I was on this weekend and the bartender took out a bottle of clear liquid and passed me it and said 'your not allergic to dairy are you?' To which I replied 'we'll I actually don't eat dairy, why what is it?' - turns out its some liquid that makes the cocktail frothy but contains dairy!! There is stuff hidden in everything!

When I was gluten free (for 3.5 weeks) he still showed the same symptoms as he is now so maybe it isn't gluten/wheat? I think I will try eggs tomorrow and see. We will probably still give 1 bottle of neocate just so DP can do a feed.

hun when I trialled neocate the next step according to my dr was a total ED - so if you dont kill it or grow it you dont eat it :o
basically you eat meat, veg and fruit. I was told no dairy (aleady done) wheat/gluten, eggs, nuts and soy. Even then some los are sensitive to corn and rice :(

For T I dont 'know' but I suspect he has an immature bowel and stomach. It doesn't tolerate much going through it. some babies are just allergic to their mums milk according to my plunket nurse and others get hungry because the milk once on a ted sometimes doesnt have enough fat in it to sustain.

how was he before the neocate/ good? or not so much?

I'm not sure if that is really long enough to see an improvement, I though it took alot longer for gluten to be out of your system...sorry! Eggs is way easier to avoid than soy or even milk I find. I would for sure try eggs first before even considering cutting out gluten again though as doing both at once is tough.  {{{hugs}}}

Yeah I did think 3.5 weeks wasn't long enough for the gluten but the dietician told me to reintroduce it. I've been eating less gluten since then but I have defo been eating it.

Sara I didn't see the difference really but DP explained him to be much better. Out docs gave us a 400g tin which has gone already so I'm going back today for more (a lot more otherwise it will run out quickly!!)

Don't get me wrong, I think the main intolerance is dairy/soy because he is much better since I've cut them from my diet but there's still something!

From today I will avoid eggs and I will continue on reduced gluten but I think ill really struggle to do both at the same time! I wish someone could just tell me what to avoid! Grrr!

I'm still struggling with a niggling voice in my hea telling me to switch to the neocate, part of me feels selfish to prolong the symptoms while I try all these ED's!

I honestly think I'm going to feel incredibly guilty either way! I'm also sad that I never managed to bf DS1 because he has no intolerances so all I can think of is that I would have been able to bf him for a long time! We had an undiagnosed tongue tie so I stopped and then felt incredibly guilty about that as well!

Something in my gut is making me upset because this could be my only chance, we haven't decided whether we will have any more babies!

Kelly, so what symptoms does he still have after taking out dairy and soy?

I think you had a thread about props and you got rid of them and he STTN? That is great  :) Olly didn't STTN till he was 14 months old due to his food issues  ::)

I am just thinking that if it 'just' the vomiting maybe you could reason that in your head as some babies just are sicky? He will be starting solids soon and that may help keep some food down?

((((hugs))))  G and I are egg/dairy free and I've thought about going gluten free too but it does seem so hard   :-\  Whatever decision you make will be best for your family.  I will say I wish I'd done more of a ED when G was tiny.  I was dairy/soy free for about 4 months and then reintroduced and everything seemed fine.  While I was dairy/soy free he was better but it was always a struggle during the lunch time feed.  Looking back I wonder if it was the eggs I always ate for breakfast  :-\  Last April/May (looking back it was after I finally got him to eat scrambled eggs which he previously never wanted) G started getting ear infections and they just kept coming.  I finally decided to cut out dairy/eggs and the infections stopped but he still has fluid in his ears.  I honestly feel it is something in his diet and hate to cut out gluten bc he's had it and it will be so hard to tell him he can't have crackers or something C is having.  If the fluid doesn't drain by the spring we will go gluten free and if that doesn't work I guess I'm left having to get tubes.  So I told that long story to say IMO it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and figure what it is now unless you feel it's something he will grow out of quickly.  (((hugs))))

*hugs* Kelly.
I know this sounds like a daft question, but could DH be trying to tell you what he thinks you want to hear (that LO is doing better on the neocate) so that you drop BF?  Sorry, I know that sounds really suspicious of me, but he'll surely be aware of the pressure you're under at the moment with the ED and that would remove that if you switched. :-\

I get what you mean Amanda. The thing is though, that he actually really wants me to continue bf. Ive cried to him about stopping and he knows how much it means to me. He knows how hard its been but also how rewarding and how much I love it.

I actually dont mind the dairy/soy because Im kinda used to it now. Apart from the odd comment that I might make about missing cheese and chocolate I dont usually moan and we have all changed our diets so we've been using dairy/soy free spread and almond/coconut milk as a family :) I had no egg products today so I will see.

I think you had a thread about props and you got rid of them and he STTN?
yeah he has STTN but it isnt consistant. Prob about 50% of the time though :)

Kelly, so what symptoms does he still have after taking out dairy and soy?
the vomiting is the main one. Im worried about the weight gain. I havent changed a poo in days but DP said his one at the weekend was green and very very smelly, I guess this might be because he had started neocate though?
