Extremely long last nap - wake up?
« on: February 19, 2013, 19:55:23 pm »
When I can follow the BW routine everything goes well, but on those days where I have to take my baby out and about and can't fit in either the right number if naps or the right length naps, his last nap can go on and on.  For instance he was very tired this evening so he went for his nap at half 4, woke for a feed at 5.15 and then nearly straight back to sleep, and it's now nearly 8!!  So my question is really, should I just leave him until he wakes for a feed, probably in 15 mins then do the normal bedtime routine, or wake him myself (and from experience he will cry hysterically) and once he stops crying try and do the bedtime routine.  I say try because from experience he is very fussy and I don't think has a last feed properly as he's crying and too tired.

Thank you for your advice :)

Sorry, forgot to add, what shall I do if he doesn't wake up for his feed?

Can you tell us how old he is?

If he is down on sleep for the day, he may be trying to catch up. If you are happy to let him sleep and then do a later bedtime routine, I can't see it doing harm unless it becomes the norm.

Hi hon- it can be really tricky when you are out and about.. just try to not stress about it! In that particular example i would have just let him sleep and then fed him when he woke. Once they are out for the night they might just stay there!
