Well I know it hasn't been a week but things seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

BT has been 7/7:30

WU went from 5:50 to 5:40 to 5:30 and 4:50 this am!
We don't start our day til 6 or later as she usually babbles in crib for 3mins or so.

She's gone down independently for her first nap at 10 wiyhout wiwo but hasn't slept longer than 1hr 10 on her own. She always more than ready to go down.
The other times she's woken around 35/40 and I've resettled by holding her.

Then she takes an aped CN 3.5-4 hrs later and BT 3 hrs from that. Sometimes takes 15-30 to settle. Not sure if UT but settles on own after babbling

This am she was so hyper but then went dtraight to exhausted and miserable. So I went to put her down at 9:45. She was practically falling asleep during bottle. Then after a few seconds in crib the wailing began. Started wiwo. Never seen her so upset.

I'm writing this as I go in and out. It's been 15 mins. We'll see how long it takes.

I feel like the worst mother in the world. :(

Well that ended in the worst possible way.

After 30mins of wiwo and no signs of slowing (getting more hysterical and frantic) I aped the nap. It was just too much for me. Far from her norm.

She took a good 15 mins to finally calm down even after picking her up. I feel horrible. :(. So 45 mins later she's finally asleep.

So. Where do I go from here? I'm all out of ideas. She's clearly OT. But what I can't figure out is if the EWs are caused by needing more A time somehow or just OT? Like I said I REALLy stretch her to get her to 10 in the am. But when we were doing 9am naps she was waking earlier. So confused. Haven't had an 11 hr night in a week.

She slept from 10:25-12:15 on me.

So I'm going for one nap today w EBT of 5:30/6 depending on how she's doing. And just hope for an 11.5-12 hr night.

I'm thinking maybe that catnap is throwing things off. Like there's not always enough time to squeeze it in and she wants a longer A to bedtime? Not sure. We'll see how tonight goes.

Plus she's got three molars coming in at once. The third just poked through. Probably adding to the problem. Although I do give teething tablets or inprofen if I think it's really bothering her.

Anyway. Just thinking outloud here. ...

((((hugs))))

YES definitely give medicine if she's teething. The molars really hurt, she's never going to sleep well if she's in pain.

I don't know. I think if it was me I would probably just go for one nap cold turkey, expect a few hellish days, and pray that OT will eventually work in my favour and she'll just crash from exhaustion. I'd do one nap at 11, APOP to extend it any way I can, and do EBT, and hang in there as best I can.

The reason why is because you could work on two naps but as soon as you get a reasonable wake up, you're going to want to transition to one nap anyway.

But, I am not in your shoes and not the one having to listen to her cry. :(

Ok. Well thanks. :). I think I'm gonna take each day as it comes. Maybe go for two naps on days she's extra tired and one on days I think she might handle it? I don't know. But thanks for the ideas.

So hard to tell with this one.

BT was 5:30 last night (5hrs 15 A) but asleep by 5:50

Then wake ups at 4, 4:40, and I think back to sleep til 5:20/30? Hard to say. But not so fun.

She's turning into my chronic EWer. :( used to be EBT was guaranteed good sleep but now I just never know if my day will start at 4. Fun times. :)
Thanks again.

Are there any 2-1 cold turkey success stories I could follow? I was looking for a thread but not finding one. When DH gets back from a trip I might go for it. Would love some good success stories tho!

I know Lolly went cold turkey with EWs... Might be worth starting a new thread specifically to ask?

Yes we did! Although admittedly they weren't quite as early as yours! DD was waking before 6 for a month or so which was only just over 10 hours from bedtime and she wouldn't sleep earlier with the 2 naps so we just went straight to 1 nap the day after she turned 1.

I aimed for 11.30am nap to start which worked well, the first day we just distracted her and kept her going. I used to pick DS up from school at 11.20 so she would fall asleep on the walk home and I would transfer her to her cot. I made sure she had a good snack before we went to school and then lunch when she woke.

It took a few days for her nap to lengthen but it did and we did bedtime about 6.30 while she transitioned and then back to her usual 7pm.

Popping back and great you have had some new food for thought :-*
Just hugs to offer now, and a hand to hold if you go CT to 1 nap x

Hmmm, Lolly you're giving me courage. Her nights haven't been longer than 10.5 hrs in a long time.

You found just 30mins earlier for BT was enough? Even with just a 1hr 15 min nap?

Also, was your DD a good sleeper before? Mines always been all over the place so I'm nervous it'll just go horribly wrong.  But I guess I'm in a mess as it is so it can't hurt to try.

Sounds like it did the trick pretty quickly for you? I'm willing to give it a couple weeks.

Thanks ladies!

I think if things are a mess anyway then you have nothing to loose really!

My DD adapted pretty quickly, she was a reasonably good sleeper by then apart from fairly short nights! She has always been a high A times girl and had dropped the catnap before she was 5 months and she handles OT fairly well too.

We have had a set bedtime of 7 since she was born really, it was easier with 2 to manage that way, so 6/ half 6 was an early bedtime for us. I have never done a bedtime before 6pm.

It did sort things for a good few months, we still had brief NWs a lot of nights and she had a regression at 24 mon ths and had dopped the nap totally by the time she was 30 months. Now, at nearly 4 she averages 10.5/11 hours at night.

Well I tried it today. So not fun. Not going forward with it. She's definitely not ready. Eyes are bloodshot. Was miserable.

Did 5 hrs A to 11pm nap. Nap from 11-1 ( woke at 30. I resettled by aping. It was a very restless nap)

Then by 4p she was powering yawning. Kept trying to distract, change scenery etc. but she was soooo tired. Wouldn't even eat dinner at 5. Nor take a bath (which she LOVES) BC she couldn't bring her blankie in with her. (Uses it for sleeps). I couldn't take seeing her like that so I put her to bed at 5:30!! I'm in for a rough night.

O well. At least I know she's not ready. Too hard on both of us.

Gonna go back to nap at 10 then CN and just stick with it.
Maybe she's just never gonna go back to those wonderful 11.5hr nights. Maybe 10.5 is what she's gonna be doing for a while. If that's the case, I at least want to get her to a later BT! :)

Thanks for all the encouragement. Ill be off for a while.
Jess
