How long should a cat nap be?
« on: February 24, 2013, 20:24:26 pm »
My 6 month old is currently transition 3-2 naps. Had figured it out but recent virus means having to start again.

Just wondered how long you allow your LO to catnap at say 5pm for if BT is usually 6.30 to avoid UT/OT?

Our CN started at 45 mins but then just before we transitioned we were doing more like 20 mins just to see her through to BT.
Do you want to post your day for us to take a look?

Thanks. Our day usually and should look like this:

6  awake and BF
7 breakfast
9 nap until 10.30 then BF
11.30 lunch
1.30pm nap until 3pm then BF
4.30 dinner
6 BF then bath
6.30 bed

Sometimes he wakes at 6.30 so he has shorter A time before BT but yeaterday he woke at 5.30 and cut his nap short so it got to 5pm and he had been awake 3 hours. That extra 1:5 hr would have made him so OT but then had he napped too long he woul have been UT and we would have had an early waking probably! I let him nap for 20 mins then woke him but don't know if this is the right thing to do?

That's exactly what I did with my LO during the transition.  Sometimes it was even as short as 15 minutes - just enough to get her through to BT.

Ok so I let him have 15 minutes at 5.15! He was not impressed with his wake up but has gone down great! Fingers crossed for no EW tomorrow!

He woke at 4am and then managed to get him back down until 5.30am so not great! I think I new to limit the catnap even further or have it earlier maybe but then risk and UT nap (but as I'd want it short anyway I'm wondering if there's any harm in that!)

We did an UT nap to keep it about 30 min how was he when he woke at 4, happy and playful or upset? How did you get him back down?

I would limit it to 15/20 mins at this age. Does he usually do 2 1.5 naps as per the routine you posted? If so I am wondering if you could just do an EBT and see if that works better.
