15 week old nap question
« on: February 24, 2013, 21:19:09 pm »
I have started to use ssh pat to sleep train my 15 week old. She settles wonderful,y for night time and sleeps through. Daytime naps can be terrible - hysterical crying etc. I started with ssh pat last Tue and have been using it since then (not every day because we had a few days out in between). She def responds positively to it. I like that I can put her into the cot awake and help her sooth herself to sleep. She doesn't dislike the ssh pat; it does stop any crying. My question is we can have naps in the day where she goes off within minutes and other naps where I can't get her to sleep at all or it takes ages. Is this normal at her age? Also must add that her naps are just 45 mins except for Sat when first time in weeks she slept 12-2 (she didn't have much of a morning nap because she wouldn't settle). I have a 26 month old also so I suspect she could be overstimulated but I don't know how I can avoid this. Thank you - desperately trying to make progress  :'(

Do you want to post your current routine? If she is STTN then it might be she is UT for her naps and then ends up OT which is pretty common. 45 mins is also an UT sign.
Sounds like you are def making progress though if she is responding to ssh pat :)

Thank you for your reply. So today was tough. I have my toddler with me all but 1 day; he goes to crèche tomorrow so can focus fully on my little girl.

Wake and E 8 am
A
S seemed fussy at 9:30; wanted to get her out a little longer but she got very fussy.upstairs ssh pat for 20 mins no joy. She seemed tired and was relaxed but woke when I stopped (a few times). Then we gave up cos I didn't get any more time from my little man. I pushed her to sleep in the buggy for 10 mins, then she woke, happy out.

Then I'm sorry to say as the day started badly we popped off to my mams. She grabbed 20 mins in the car and another E at 11am.
A to 1pm
S 10 mins ssh pat. Slept for 40 mins.
E 2pm
A
S in car at 3 pm
A
E at 4:30 ish
A cranky
S in arms at 6:30.
S 7
In bed at 7:45 - put in awake went off in seconds.

This is not a typical day we do not rush off as much as that seems but we started bad and just decided to get some help today. I am happy that she went off easy for lunch time nap and of course bedtime went well.

I feel we're making a lot of progress. I feel she can take 1;45 min awake time (when we re by ourselves) and when I put her up then she is not hysterical and is asleep with a matter of minutes of ssh pat(sometimes I don't need to she's happy to put herself off). For me this is real progress, I'm hope it's not just luck over the last few days. I do feel if I put her up too early (when she first shows her sleep cues) she can take ages to put off and sometimes will doze in the ssh pat and will wake when I stop and not want anymore sleep.

So hopefully we re getting there. One question though, I feel when my little boy is around that she gets very fussy around the 1.5 hour mark, that's when I was putting her up and cue hysterics. What can I do to help stretch her to 1;45 on those days (which are most). My son is in crèche for these 2 days so I can try and continue with our progress. Our Easy looks like this so far today:

A 7:50
E 8:00
A
S 9:40 - 10:30

E 11:00
A
S 12:15 - 1:00
A

E 1:30 seemed hungry earlier.
A
S 2:45 still asleep.

I know we have the 45 min nap demon but once I can get her settling quickly without hysterics I would be so happy.

Sounds like you've been making great progress :) How are things going now hun?

Do you have a carrier/sling you could put her in for the last 15 mins, so she has some quieter time close to you before her nap?
