Thank you Hun! Our quiet time does tend to be around when he would have had a nap, but it all depends on the day, whether he is at nursery, or if not we sometimes are out and about. I am sure quiet time helps. I set up the sofa with cushions and his favourite blanket, but these days he isn't taking the opportunity to fall asleep even if he lies down. I am starting to think I have been worrying too much, and that he is coping a lot better than I thought. Tonight because he had 12 hours last night, I am considering a 6.45 BT to hopefully get a 6.45 WU tomorrow. If he seems to be doing well, I will.

As you suggest, I am definitely wary of BT too early now. In the past EBT has been our saviour, but now I think it is a different ball game altogether.

Thanks again for the advise and support  :-*

Fantastic for the good night!! :D
I would actually try to push bt to 7, he could be able to stay awake for 12.5 h after a such long night, and you would have more chances to avoid a wu before 6... of course, if he doesn't nap!
As a rule, I would try to adjust usual bt as if we have a 11 h night the wu is not too early.

Yes! this does seem to be the case. I think it's probably more of a regression/adjustment period though (at east for us) than his actually sleep needs decreasing. Don't you  ???
I am not really sure it is a regression. It is for sure an adjustment. It is already a couple of months that we have total sleep oscillating between 11 h and 12 h in 24 h total, so an average of 11.5 h per day. And he's perfectly fine with this amount of sleep, no sign of OT. So I think this is what we have. I've also read of many 4 yo that have a 11 h night without the nap, so it can well be that 11 h in total is what most have at 4 yo, and we are going toward there...
I miss 13-14 h total sleep per day (especially the 2-2.5 h nap that gave me lot of time on Sunday afternoon to nap myself...)!

Unavoidably a 12.5 hour day yesterday, as I was caring for a relative. Sam only slept 11.15. I know some have said that's not too bad, but he isn't doing too good. When he woke, I encouraged him to look at his books in bed (to get extra rest, as he has done before) which resulted in a total melt down, screaming for 20 minutes. This is not an easy thing to take when you haven't even had a coffee yet. We're going out in the car this afternoon and I'll wager he'll nod off, but if not I'll go for a 6.30 BT, which will b a 12 hour day.

I never had this many problems with the other nap transitions this one is just rocking all of us and we are all sleep deprived and grumpy lol

Neither did we and we are in a very similar boat.  I'm so OT, and then just less fun overall :-[

I think it's probably more of a regression/adjustment period though (at east for us) than his actually sleep needs decreasing.

Oh please, please, please let it be regression!!

(Hugs) Nini. When I said regression, I was meaning sleeping 11 hours instead of 12, but I think it is an adjustment unfortunately LOL, wishful thinking eh!??  ;)

So this morning I am a very happy and surprised Mammy. Sam went down at 6.20 last night (11.50 day, no nap) then woke at 6.10. So I went straight in and lay down with him, he threw his arm around my neck and went back to sleep until 7.10  :o. This for Sam, is unheard of, usually a WU after 10 hours means no resettle, so I'm hopeful if we stick with no nap he will be able to do this again.

A short night last night, just over 11 hours. It seems things are going to be up and down for a while yet  :(. A very tired, unhappy boy when I dropped him off at nursery this morning.

I hope they can get him through the day for you!

11hrs is considered good for us! But maybe you can get him to bed half an hour early to catch up?

Thanks Hun. He is just half day, so collecting him at 12.30. He is usually very chipper when I collect him. Honestly, I think I need to stick to a 12 hour day, in case he doesn't tack. Never though I would hear myself say that, but I can't take the chance on a 5 am WU and a super long day tomorrow. He does seem to be adjusting well to the longer days.

I agree Vicki. As I said, I would keep bt to a time compatible with a 11 h night. Then, if you have a 12 h night, this would be a plus!

I kept set bedtime in the transition. Then moved it back as we got consistently longer nights.

Ended up a 12.05 length day. NW for the second night in a row. Slept 11 hours 45 and woke at 6.25, in a foul mood  :'( He smacked me in the eye with his blankie, and it's still wheeping and red. Then he started screaming and shouting and woke DH who is also fed up of this level of volume at 6.30 am. Yesterday Sam's mood had deteriorated too. I feel helpless when a nap is out of the question and so is EBT. I have no choice but to just suck it up. I find it very hard not to shorten his day, as this is how I have always helped him the past, but if it backfires we'll be in a worse place AGAIN. Fed up this morning. I'm at work tonight so I need to get him down before my Auntie arrives to baby sit. Leave for work at 6.30 and need Sam down for 6.30...just perfect  ::)

I wish I knew that a 5.30 BT would get us a 6.30 WU tomorrow, but I doubt it very much now  :(

If the behavior is so bad, it means he's not getting enough sleep according to me. However, today you cant let him nap if you need him to bed early. And I would try and give your plan a week to see if it works. If not, you may consider reintroducing a nap few times a week, sticking with the 12 h days?
