Moving to 3 bottles
« on: February 20, 2013, 19:52:13 pm »
We are in the 2-1 nap switch and I can't seem to figure out how to do feedings.
She takes 3 bottles of 6 oz and 1 bottle of 6-8 oz at bed snd solids an hour later. She is decreasing the solids she is taking. She was recently sick with the flu and now is congested and maybe teething.

I tried one day last week to do
7 am milk
815 breakfast
1115 lunch
2pm bottle. Was screaming by 130 so had it then
Then I wanted to do dinner at 5 and no bottle till bed but at 4 she wanted a bottle. I tried to offer just a few oz to tie her over but no luck.

What is the best way to do this switch to 3 bottles?

How old is she?

The normal pattern for 3 bottles is wake up, after lunch just before the PM nap and then bedtime. You give solids after the wake up bottle, before the afternoon bottle and before the bedtime bottle. If she waking hungry after the pm nap you can offer a snack and formula in a sippy instead of a bottle or bring the evening meal earlier.

HTH!

She is 10.5 months old. It just seems like she is drinking a lot and not as interested in her solids.  She might be teething which I hear can effect eating. Maybe I will try it again on the weekend

Could be related to teething for sure hun... she may just not be ready to move to 3 bottles yet either... Her total isn't unreasonable on 4 bottles as they are now... you could reduce each down to 5 ozs during the day and 7 at bedtime to bring her solids up a bit.  FWIW, my DD did have a few instances of refusing to eat when teething and would go from 3 bottles a day back up to 4 or even 5.

Must have been due to her plugged up nose as she is back to eating. What's the best way to switch to 3? I think I need to add some snacks to our day to make up for the bottles.

Poor wee thing!  Glad she is back to eating again!

I just did the change one day...

All three bottles go up to 8 ozs... one at wake, one before PM nap and one at bedtime.

Just as you posted in the first post, pull lunch a bit earlier and same with dinner if needed (or you can offer something like a bit of fruit to get her through to dinner ensuring she isn't too full).  Personally, my DD did best with an earlier dinner time - most LOs don't eat well after 430/5pm as they are just worn from the day's events.

Ok we will give it a go this weekend. Too stressed with the 2-1 to do both while dh is at work.

Good point about dinner. This might be part of our issue. I am going to bring it up earlier as she only seems in the mood for a few minutes then its a lot of work for to eat the rest.
