9 month refusing to drink
« on: March 10, 2013, 23:08:52 pm »
Hi,

I was hoping for some advice with my 9 month old. Last week he got an ear infection and completely refused any drinks from his bottle/cup. I went to the GP and he gave him antibiotics and he seems to be a lot better now. However he is still refusing to drink. I’m putting as much fluids into this food as i can and he’s eating a lot more solids than he was previously (approx 2 or 3 times more). I was wondering whether anyone had any tips on how to get him drinking again? His old routine used to be
7.30 Solids
8.30 Bottle
12.30 Solids
13.30 Bottle
16.30 Solids
17.30 Bottle
19.00 Bottle
But now it is just the 3 solid meals a day and not evening taking water at the meals. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Cut right back on solids and offer bottle first will help I think Hun. Even if its a temp measure to get him drinking again :-*

I would rearrange him a bit... something like this so that solids and bottles are fairly spaced:
This was our day at this age:

6am wake and bottle 8 ozs
8am Solids with water
930-11am  NAP
12noon Lunch solids/water in sippy
215pm Bottle 8 ozs
230-4pm NAP
5pm dinner solids with water
745pm - bottle 8 ozs
8pm BT/asleep

Thanks for your advise! He goes crazy when he even sees the bottle at the moment, so i can't get it anywhere near him. Think i will try your suggestion by offering him his milk first before any food in his sippy cup and see how that goes

You really do want him to be having some solids at this age so you are better to space the food/formula apart to ensure he is getting both.
