18mth changing sleep
« on: March 05, 2013, 13:46:03 pm »
Hi, back again.

EW still going on.

What's going on now is we do an EBT, and he doesn't cry or anything, but he's staying awake. He will talk to himself or make car noises ::) ....he usually won't fall asleep until 1hr later or 1.5hrs. I'm not a fan of leaving him in there so long, but if we go in, he gets mad when we leave. I have tried to do a later BT, and he will also push tht back and make it worse when he EW or, he's a baaaaaaaad boy at BT. he's been waking at 4-5am still, regardless of his BT. sometimes 9hr nights.

I'm a little sad bc he's always so moody now. I know he's teething bc he's been extra drooly and putting his fingers in his mouth often to chew on them. But this has been going on for sometime and the BT push isn't helping. I've never had a later WU, and it's been 5am for as long as I remember, mainly bc the 2-1 nap change but that was 2mths ago.

Desperate. Here.

Advice ladies? Thanks!
Fabi

Have toy tried giving a DF meds around 3am? That might help if pain is causing the EWing?
What does your routine look like?

Hi, thanks for responding.

His routine is, we go in for him no earlier than 6am. Even if he wakes, unless he cries. But generally he doesn't. But anyway, his routine goes like this:

4-5am WU (up for the day at 6am)

Nap (pd) 11:45 asleep by 12:00

WU 1:30-2:00 (sometimes short naps for less than an hr)

BT is pd at 6:00pm if he's up frm nap at 2.

....however lately he won't fall asleep until an hr + later. I have pushed his BT further but BT has lately been a disaster no matter the time. But w him pushing his BT later, he also does it if I was to pd at 7pm, and he'd fall asleep around 8pm which isn't good, bc he's EW regardless.

I have done DF meds but, he doesn't wake crying? I just havent thought to do it bc at 4am like clock work he usually wakes so im scared im going to fully wake him?
We transitioned to 1 nap in January, so we did 5pm BT for so long. Maybe he's just used to being up early?

so tricky but I think you are going to have to push either nap or BT out to try and get a later wake up. I think at this age it is best to get the nap to 12/12.30pm if possible as that helps with EWings i.e. a nap too early can perpetuate them.
Does he more often wake at 4 or 5am? 5am is 11 hours night sleep so not technically and EWing...just not a good time to be up for the day.

Well, here's the thing...

Now that the time has gone fwd, his BT is 7, but again....he's pushing it. Not sleeping until 8+pm ...and no he's getting 10hrs. He's up by 6:00... Which used to be 5. Regardless of the BT

His nap is 1-3 pm now, and he barely made it to 1 which used to be 12. And even then, sleeping until 8 he's still EW

ok well def could be the 18 month regression - have you been on the support thread? I would keep everything as consistent as you can as it 'should' pass in a few weeks. I guess you could pull the nap back to 12.30pm and then see if bT is easier at 7pm?

But if I pull back the nap, he wakes earlier so tht would mean an EBT again and earlier WU in the am.

Yea I feel it could be the regression however, he the waking at 5am has stuck since he switched to 1 nap and we were doing 5pm BT

as far as BT, doesn't matter the time... 5, 6 or 7... He's still horrible about it. That's been for months but now I'm bringing it up bc it's getting tougher as he grows ;)
