New NW's & EW's :(
« on: March 10, 2013, 21:44:06 pm »
Hi,
Our textbook/angel 11 month old has had a rough few weeks. She has been teething & off her solids, but the main thing- EW!! For 2/3 weeks she has been up for the day at 5-5:20, where it used to be 7-7:30. The odd  day she will go back over to sleep after a bottle, but most days this week she hasn't. She is exhausted- looks pale & has black rings round her eyes. This is definitely not enough sleep for her. She s usually a 11-13 hour a night girl & a 2-3 hour a day girl.

I suppose I want someone to look at her easy days & see what you think. ....
   Too much daytime sleep?
   BT too late?
   PM nap too late?
I must add that two days a week she goes to a childminder & gets a max 80 min sleep a day there & still gets up early. We never allow her more than 3 hours nap a day- although sometimes she would gladly sleep more.

Here are the last few days easy.
5:10 up
5:45 bottle back to bed
6:20 awake
7:00 solids
9:00 nap
10:15 awake
11:00 solids
2:45 bottle & nap (slightly late as we were out)
4:15 awake
5:00 solids
7:15 bottle & bed

5:10 awake
5:30 bottle & bed
6:25 awake
7:00 solids
9:30 nap
11:00 awake
12:00 solids
3:45 bottle & bed
5:00 awake
7:30 bottle
7:45 bed

Childminder day
6:45 awake bottle
8:00 solids
11:30 30 min nap in pram
12:30 solids
3:45 25 min nap in pram
4:30 solids
6:45 bath, bottle
7:15 bed
( awful evening of o/t & severe nappy rash)

What do you think? The odd day she will only ave one 2/3 hour nap if we are out & about. She can cope with this as long as she's plenty of snacks & kept busy. I read the 10/11 month old naps gone wonky- could it be the 2-1 transition?

Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Many thanks. Xx

I suspect your hitting the 2-1 too Hun.

Have a read of this and let me know what you think?
from 2 to 1 nap - how, when and the bumps

Basically you pick 1 nap to be your long one, and the other be ones a CN. I can help you work out a plan. Do you think your LO may prefer a long am or pm? (Eventually end up in the same spot ;) )

Thanks Zac's mum!! I think you're right. Last night she went down at 7- through til 7. She did wake at 3 & 5 but went over without us going in. As she did this today- we got up, had milk, breakfast etc & went for a drive & walk. My aim was to get her home by 11, bottle & bed- but she was happy to play etc so I let her be- she had some yoghurt & granola and at 11:45 we went upstairs & got ready for nap. Bottle & in cot for 12:05. So, we'll see how long she goes for.

I think she's always preferred a long pm nap, so I'd love you to make a plan for me that would  be fab- thanks.
Whereabouts in nz are you? We're not long back- my brother & family live in Auckland. My favourite country on earth!!!

Many thanks for the help, I'll remember to reply ASAP tomorrow because of time diff.
Xx

How did the nap go?
If it went well she may be very close to 1 nap. That 5 hrs A time is really good for a 1 nap day.
Something like this is often used in long pm
WU 7
CN 10.30-11
Nap 1-2.30/3
BT 7/7.30

Or for long am
WU 7
Nap 11/11.30 for 1.5/2 hrs
CN 4.30-5
BT 7/7.30

A 1 nap day may look like this - this is what my DS did from 11 mths
WU 7
Nap 11.30-2
BT 6.30/7

(These are just examples)

Today she did 12-2:45!!! She got tired at 6:30- bed for 7. Fingers crossed it goes well tonight now. I like the nap plans- I think I'll do the long pm nap & see how it goes- or do you think I should go straight to the 1 nap. Is it a case of see how we go do you think?
Thank you so much! I love this site!!! Xxxxx

I will tell you what we did, because your day looks similar and it seems your LO is doing kind of what Z did ;)

We had rules I worked on
1) if WU was before 6am then we would do a 2 nap day. Ie nap + CN
2) if WU after 6 and nap 2.5/3 hrs or went past 1pm we did 1 nap day with EBT of 6pm (or 5 hrs after WU)
3) if nap WU before 1pm I did a CN and BT 2/2.5 hrs later.

So a CN day would be like
WU 6
Nap 10.30-12.30
CN 4.30-5 (I aped this in the car)
BT 7

A no CN day was
WU 6.30
Nap 11-2
BT 6.30/7

I did find we would have some days the CN was refused so then straight to bed.
Overall night sleep improved. If I got too many EW or NW I knew OT was coming so I would pull back a times a touch and do CN days, or APOP to resettle the main nap.
If I got a nap of less than 1.5 for the main nap i tried to ap back to sleep, or we stayed in the room in the dark till 1.5 hours so DS got used to napping that long.

HTH. :-*

Oh and totally join the 2-1 support thread in naps. It's Great for day to day support!
(I just realised your nap was later but you get the idea ;) )

Oh it was all going so well!!
She slept all night- 7:15pm- 6:45. I didn't get her up until 7:15. She managed to stay up until 11:45. But...... I was hoping for a good 2/3 hour sleep again, but she is awake after 50 mins!!!!!
I have never really had to go in & settle her- so I'm just waiting here to see if she will do it herself!! It's not looking likely- what do I do?!!! If she gets up now- do I do a shorter A time? Say 2/2:5 hours?

Yup she probably needs some 2 nap days and some 1 nap YK? So I would take it as a 2 nap day and offer another nap around 3 hours after WU...keep an eye on her you will need to work out what A works after a short nap YK?

How did she wake? - do you think OT/UT?

Help!!!! The last two nights up at 3- for 25/30 mins- but I didn't go to her, then up at 5 :( :( I work weds/thurs & I'm exhausted- these are her two childminder days.testerday I out her down for 45 mins from 4-4:45- I think that was daft & should maybe ave kept her up until 6:30. What do you think, tonight she's home at 4:30- so that easier- mot as long to keep her up- do you think just persevere until v early bed at 6:45?
Hope you are well. Thanks xxxxx

No, nowhere near it! I drop her off at 8am- she usually gets 20/30 min nap in pram in am & 30/40 in pm!!! We're only in our 3rd week- so we're seeing if she'll sleep more- before we  try anything else. Our plan is to set up a travel cot & put her down after mums & tots group at 12- so she'll go for a 2 hour nap. She is exhausted- but too busy there to sleep!!!
