yes can do that - 1.5 hours? Trick thing is this am she is shattered so I want to let her nap and wake up when she wants (won't be longer than 2 hours) but maybe that is not helping. Why does it have to be so hard???

For us, longer naps compounded the early wakes. But DS did not cope with capping so we just had to carry on.

1.5 sounds reasonable! If you can get her body into a routine then she should get used to having the catch up sleep during the night. We were on a 6am wake and 2pm nap for the longest time. Think bedtime was around 7.30, asleep for 8.

well we are in a mess now as she did a short night and then a short nap today...I swear this happens all the time and I cannot figure out how to change it. I would love a 7.30/8pm BT tbh but no idea how to get there as it just makes such a long day. Did your lo reliably nap 2 hours?

We almost never got 2hrs, even as a baby. 1hr15 to 1hr30 was her longest.

I think that at around 20 ish months we were capping the nap somewhere around 45 mins. Kept nights as long as poss. After capping nap shorter and shorter we've just ditched it completely at 2.5 years.  L is def LSN tho. She gets around 11.5 to 12 hours per night now.  We found that capping her nap was best way to keep nights as long as poss and also her total daily sleep as high as poss.  Can be hard at first after short nights, but we found capping was only way to re-lengthen her nights.  Using the Gro-clock just reinforced this and made it easier for her to sleep in.

PS not saying you should cap at 45 mins, but agree with trying 1hr 30 for a bit and see where it gets you.

ok catherine...she has me stumped because shorter naps do not always equal longer nights like the past 2 days and then we end up with her exhausted and going to bed at 6.30pm......

ugh.

Hopefully, you can benefit from clock change on weekend and introduce gro clock - is that your plan? Then, combined with keeping nap at consistent length, FX should help.

5am is not pretty.

(((hugs))) I remember the misery of 5am all too well. Really hope she takes to the clock as well as H did, and you get some decent mornings SOON.

tbh I have absolutely no idea anymore whether she is low or high or average sleep needs...I really don't and mainly because nothing ever works enough for me to tell what she needs yk? DH is against the gro-clock atm as she still has 7 teeth to get and he knows I will stress if I am not supposed to go in but wonder if she is in pain....I just can't see what else to do. Clock change will only work if she is up at 6am or later, if she is up at 5am then it won't help all that much tbh.
I don't know, atm I feel like just doing 2 naps and keeping her up late on night to see if we can get a decent WU and then push nap and BT....

Not a bad idea - got to be worth a try?
