Why is my 6 month old still up all night? Help!
« on: March 19, 2013, 09:13:36 am »
Hi all please help my almost 6 month old is so unsettled from about 1am till he decides it's wake up time at 6am! Help!

He's never been the best sleeper but is very much improved last night slept 7pm - 12am soundly but then refused to settle in bed :-(

We aim for a 7/7 easy but he wakes at 6 so works out as a 6/7.

We make up that random hour thought out the day somehow.

For about a week our routine is as follows:

6am wake up
7am 7oz (doesn't always drink this I think he doesn't need his 3am bottle!)
8am breakfast
9am 1.1/2hr sleep (sometimes held for second half)
11am 7oz
12.30 lunch
1.30 1.1/2hr sleep
3pm 7oz
4.30/5 dinner
6pm bath time
6.30 7oz
7pm asleep

He wakes anywhere between 10pm and 12am and has 7oz normally but that has been getting less and less goes down beautifully but then wakes at 1.30am and it all goes to pot. We try to just resettle him then feed him at 3am or nearest wake up but he never takes much any more so I don't think it's due to hunger.

 ??? ???

Want him to have a settled sleep and we wouldn't mind some sleep too  :'(

Hey there,

Can you tell us a bit more about his sleep?

For instance:
- Does he go down independently? What do you do to resettle him?
- If you don't offer the feed when he first wakes, what happens?
- Have you tried a dream feed?

If he is waking at around 1am, I am wondering what would happen if you tried to hold off feeding him until then and encouraging him to take a full bottle once a night. My little guy was on 2 feeds a night still at 6 months so I don't think it is unusual - but 1 is a lot easier to manage!
