Quoting issues
« on: March 24, 2013, 18:55:23 pm »
I used to be able to highlight a piece of a post and then hit quote selected and it would be in my post. For ages it no longer works and it just puts the whole post in the reply box. It's a pain when trying to answer multiple questions on sleep threads for example.

What's going on?!!!

That has never worked properly for me Shiv. I have to highlight it, hit ctrl+c and then click on the quote selected button. Then it works. If I just highlight and hit quote selected then I get the entire post. HTH?

Thanks mashi. That is probably an easier way than me putting the whole quote in them deleting all the bits I don't need 5 times in a post. Just frustrating as it has never been an issue before

It's on the top right corner of each post, Jaime :)

I have a button that says "quote", not "quote selected".  And the quote button has only ever inserted the entire quote.

Weird. Mine says "Quote [selected]"

Think if I don't highlight something it just quotes the whole post... :-\

I have a "quote(selected)" button but I've never worked out how to quote only a section, even if I highlight first  it's always quoted the entire post for me! Mind you I did just assume it was me doing it wrong :P

I can't remember when, but I think this came up in the past and for some reason I recall that clearing your browser cache was supposed to fix it. It sometimes works for me and sometimes not. On my phone it is a royal pain, but still possible.

Lol here is what I was thinking of, it was your thread Mashi! Cannot believe that stuck in my head since 2009.

The new "Quote Selected" option

I can't believe that stuck in your head either!!   :P ;D

And, after reading it....I didn't have that option then and still don't have that option now.  So, I will be of no further help here.   :) 8)

LOL Jaime!  Sometimes it's like we're using different forums ;)

I wonder whether it works ok for me because my OS takes highlighting to mean copying too, so the CTRL+C option might work?

I am blessed cursed with a photographic memory...problem is random things I don't really need to know stick in my head!

So strange that the quote(selected) button never showed up for you!!

I have the "quote (selected)" button too. I always found that it worked for almost every thread but when replying to certain members it never worked and would quote the entire post, yes very annoying.  Even now the same members come up with the entire post quoted instead of the selected area but as I don't mod now it isn't really a big deal to me.
Sorry, didn't help to fix it, but maybe you notice it is certain members and not all?  It could lead to finding a reason why it happens sometimes?
