Check my EASY before I start PUPD please.
« on: March 25, 2013, 14:56:27 pm »
Ok, I'll try to keep this concise.  I have almost 1 yr old b/g twins. DD is an angel who wakes maybe once a night for a sip of water and then goes back down on her own for the rest of the night. She self soothes and puts her self to sleep without a problem. Her twin brother is a different story altogether. He is very spirited and wakes multiple times a night and we have always relied on props and APing to get him to sleep. He has never been able to self soothe and needs our help to fall asleep.  So we are thinking of doing PUPD with him and I know it's going to be horrible and awful so I want to make sure I cover all the bases before we start. Can someone please check out our EASY to make sure we are ok there?  Ok so a typical day for both of them looks like this:
6:30ish wake
10:30/11 sleep for 1.15-2.15hrs
(DD sleeps straight through this nap but DS often needs help resettling [prop use and APing] after 30-60 min)
3:30/4:30 sleep ( time and length of this nap depends on length of first nap.  If AM nap was long, this one is usually a short 30 min and occasionally we have skipped it altogether)
7:30 BT

DS wakes anywhere from 2-6 times a night and we use a paci and hold him til he falls asleep.  If he's very agitated we hold him in a way that his arms are held tightly and this helps him settle. (This is just another prop isn't it?).

So initial A time is usually about 4-4.30 hrs.  Second A time is usually shorter maybe 3.30 hrs. I know we are on the cusp of transitioning to one nap and we've done it maybe twice semi successfully though there was some added crankiness.

I'm thinking we need to commit 2 weeks to PUPD but I'm not looking forward to it.  He is VERY spirited and screams really loudly and is very strong.  I know it's going to be borderline unbearable and I'm not so sure I can do it. So anyone have any advice for me?  How does my EASY look?  Anything I should tweak before I dive into PUPD?  Thanks in advance!

Hi Natasha, I'm going to move you over to toddler sleep as your LOs are nearly one.  PUPD may not be the most appropriate way to go, especially if they are able to pull to stand.  Normally you would just do PD at this age :). Hopefully on the toddler board you will get some help with an appropriate sleep training technique and navigating the 2-1 switch :)

Ok thanks jessmum.  It's strange to think of my LOs as toddlers but I guess I need to get used to it!  And yes, they pull up and walk already. Hopefully someone here can help..?

I should also mention that we live in a 2 bedroom house and we decided months ago to separate the twins at night so DS didn't wake DD.  So currently DH and I each sleep in a room with a baby.  So lately I've been in one room with DS and DH has been in the other room with DD.  Which means I'm not sure how/if to do WIWO.  Ultimately we'd LOVE to have them in one room and us in the other room but we don't know how to get there without sacrificing DDs sleep.  Anyone..?
