7 month old - Breast Milk and food intake question
« on: March 28, 2013, 03:46:13 am »
My LO is 7 months, I'm pumping for his bottle during the day. I stopped BF during the day because he was getting very distracted while feeding and breastfeeding became a nightmare! I also use Formula to mix cereal and certain food. I know he should probably be drinking more milk. He's getting 14oz but he's not into drinking from bottle anymore.. ??? It takes up to 30 minutes to finish his bottle and very often he only drinks 2 or 3 oz so I end up using the milk in his cereal. Surprisingly he’s never that hungry (thirsty) for his milk.

Here's his schedule:
7:00 Wake
7:30 Bottle 4oz
8:00 Breakfast (3tbsp cereal, 2 tbsp fruits) mix w/left over milk
9:30 - 11:00 Nap
11:00 Bottle 4 oz
12:00 Lunch (2tbsp cereal, 1 egg yolk or chicken, 2 tbsp veggies)
1:30-3:00 Nap
3:00 Bottle 4oz (1/2 jar fruits)
5:00 Dinner 2oz milk in cup, 2tbsp cereal, 2 tbsp chicken, 2 tbsp veggies
6:00 Bedtime
9:00/10:00 NW - some nights he wakes up around that time and I breastfeed him but usually he sleeps through the night.

Baby sleeps well, is happy, weighs 20lbs and overall is healthy.

Is this ok?? I'm worry he’s not getting enough milk. Based on what I found he should be drinking 26-32 oz of milk.  This is for Formula.
I can’t seem to find any guideline for breast milk intake or is it the same? Please let me know your thought.
Thanks !

I didn't get any feedback  :-[
So I called a paediatric dietician and found answer to my question.

Breast milk : 16-35 oz per day.
It's a big range but babies are very good at knowing how much they need.

I hope this information will help someone else  :)

Hi,
Your info was really helpful to me. :) I have been wondering the same thing about the BM intake. I am also using formula to supplement and to add in cereal. My son gets very distracted with the feeds and isn't nearly feeding as long as he used to and BF is getting really tiring. However mine is not eating as well as yours bc he is feeding at each NW and we have about 2-3 of those per night. I am going to try giving milk before his food like you do and see if that works better.
Thanks again
