Naps 'only' 1 h
« on: April 01, 2013, 09:13:41 am »
Hello, my LD is 8 months and she had short naps of only 30 min, i practise W2S method (rubbing her cheek after 27 min) now for a week and her naps are longer, butagain now she wakes up after 1 h. I wonder how long to practise W2S and why is she wakeing up after 1 h. Her A time is 3 h-3h20 min. Can i do W2S also few min before 1 h of sleeping?
But she seems happy after 1h, and nights are quite ok ;)
Tnx a lot!

If she seems happy after an hour nap, she may well be undertired.  Is she closer to 8 months or 9 months?

What does your day look like in EAS format?

Something like this:

E 7am
A
S 10-11am  etc...

E 4.30 BF, 7 BF but usually does not want it?! 9 fruit
S 10-11
E 12BF, 13 lunch
A
S 14-15
E16 fruit
    Cat nap 18
   19dinner
   20 bath 20.20 BF
20.30 sleeping

And she started WU after 10h of sleeping in the night, so she WU at 6.30. Is it maybe because i BF at 4.30 and then she poo? I also change her diper when she wake up at 3.30,but it is only wet. Her day is long, like 14h,i also try to put her in bad earlier but she wu earlier...
She just turned full 8months.
 Tnx a lot

She's quite likely in an UT/OT loop hun... she is too old to have a CN, and should be having two decent naps each day... most average a total of 3.5 hrs of day sleep at this age with 10.5 - 11.5 at night.

I would consider weaning her night feed as well.

Her A time during the day should be right around the 3 hr mark but may be a bit higher right before bed so long as she is on 2 good naps a day.

Something like this would be common at this age:

Wake 7am
Nap 10-1130am
Nap 230-430pm
BT 730pm.

Ok, thank you! I was thinking about that too in last 2 days, but didn't know where and how to start. Her A time was now last 2days 3 h, but her am nap was 1h15 and pm nap was also 1h15, but she woke up after 30 min(doesn't that mean OT?)... So at the end of the day i had to give her a CN otherwise she should go to bed at 18, and than she would woke up at 5am!
I was thinking about weaning BF first and than try to extend her naps to at least 1h30, but how? And what to do with waking up at 30 min mark?
Do you think she would sleep for 11,5h if i wean BF, otherwise she would WU at 6 (10.5h) and it would be impossible to hold on for her until 7.30 with only 2 naps...that hapen most of the time, she WU early and the day becomes to long for her...

Likely yes, but push through.. any increase to A times will cause a bit of OT to start with...  she needs to get used to the new awake times.

Does she go right back to sleep if you BF at night?

Yes she goes right back to sleep after I BF at night, I think it is learned hunger, but she eats quite a lot at this BF.
Should I even increase her A time, as she woke up after 1h15 min?
Thank you very much!

If she takes a good feed, I would assume hunger.  Some kids do need a NF until closer to a year.

You can increase her A time again if she sleeps straight through her nap and wakes after less than 1 hr 30.

Well she does not sleep through a whole nap, she wake up at 20 min and again at 1 h, sometimes also after 35 min. I will try to put her back to sleep everytime she wake up and i hope eventually she will sleep through the whole nap. Thank you again!

That actually sounds more like discomfort waking her.. is she teething right now?  Might be worth a shot to give her some ibuprofen about 45 mins before a nap to see if that helps...

I think it is theeting, because nights are a disaster,WU every hour. I gave paracetamol, but does not help. How does it usually last? She is drooling during the day and constantly wants to chew something. I think i should wait this to pass and than go back on track and mybe it will get better, if not i will searching for help then.
Thank you!

For sure you have to wait this one out.. teething will last until the age of 2/3 but will be off and on.. most bouts are bad for 4 days or so, then you get a day or two before it gets bad again... once a tooth cuts, baby will be much better.

In terms of pain relief, paracetamol really isn't great for it... ibuprofen is far superior.. it acts faster, lasts longer and reduces the painful swelling as well.
