How to fit in feeds, or introduce more solids???
« on: April 03, 2013, 03:08:33 am »
Hi,

I have a 6 month old that is on a 4hr EASY, we started solids early due to reflux at 4 months. She is on 2 meals a day and 4x150-180ml bottles.

Iam having trouble fitting in feeds as she has a 3hr A time, so the 3rd feed at 2.30-3pm is very close after her going down for a nap between 1.30-2pm. The past couple of days she has seemed hungry at about 1pm so I offer half a bottle and she will take it.

My question is, should I introduce a lunch meal?? or just split that 3rd bottle to half before the nap and then the rest when she wakes up?

Here is her EASY on a good day (give or take 30 mins)

WU: 6am (plays in cot till 6.30am)

E: 6.30-6.45am 150mls (solids 1-1.5hrs later)
A: 3hrs
S: 1.20-2hrs (depends, but normally in this range)

E:10.30-11am 150mls
A: 3hrs
S: 1.20-2hrs (depends, but normally in this range)

E: 2.45-3.15pm 150mls
A: 3.5-4hrs
E: 5.30pm dinner solids

BT: 6.30-6.45pm bottle, bed at 7pm (always sleep by 7.30pm)

She has no DF or NF

She has been going sometimes 4.5hrs between feeds for the 2nd/3rd bottles. Morning and BT bottle is always the same.

I wouldn't add more solids in as her formula intake is on the lower end of where we want it to be already.

Is she able to handle a bigger milk feed or does it bother her reflux to take more than 5-6 ozs?  If she can take 7-8 ozs at once, i would increase each bottle and see if that keeps her a bit fuller.

I did cut back on the solids awhile ago and it didn't effect her milk intake stayed the same 150-180mls. She has always been a small eater. I have tried to get more milk into her at the one time, but she just won't take it.

No worries... likely relates to her reflux.

Given her low intake, I would avoid a lunch meal (she is far too young for 3 meals a day).

I would offer her third bottle before her nap and pull her dinner solids forward a bit if she is hungry... be sure to offer a good 7 ozs before that PM nap and maybe she will take it ;)
