21 month old routine help
« on: April 22, 2013, 14:24:26 pm »
Feeling really frustrated at mo that I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what! So farbeginning of this year had about 5 weeks of ew till I sorted it with a later nap + actually started to have 2 hr nap when was previously always 1 hr.  Things worked well for a couple of weeks then was getting ew again so clocks changing managed to get us a good wake up + did nap slightly later which worked again for about 2 weeks. Then she did a week of 1hr naps + 11.5 hr nights then had 1 early morn so had a 2 hr nap woke early nx day + now we've had a week of 1.5 hr naps + 10.5 hr nights.
We do a fixed nap of 1.15pm ish + fixed bedtime of 7.30pm (falls asleep around 7.50pm)
Last night was asleep 8pm woke 6am + only napped 1 hr really worried gna get in a right mess again :-(

Not sure whether I'm putting her dwn at the wrong time at night. The other night she went dwn a bit earlier at 7.20pm + took 50mins to get to sleep.x

Forgot to say she has had nw now + again the last few weeks for about an hour. We medicate + she lies in her cot happily listening to her music until she falls asleep. The other night she woke about 12pm so gave her medicine + was asleep in 5 mins then woke an hour later for 70mins just happily in her cot so not sure if could be developmental as she's suddenly talking in sentences all the time now too.x

Hi! My DD is EXACTLY the same age as yours and we seem to be having a very similar problem! It's 20:30 and she's been in bed since 19:00 and is still awake!! Last night she fell asleep @ 20:15, woke around 5am but resettled until 7.05am this morning. She's only taking an hour nap in the day and that seems to be at random times despite putting her down at the same time. Tonight, as I said, she's still awake....seems fairly settled but during this past hour and a half, she's been babbling away on and off. It's doing my head in as I think i'm doing something wrong too! Perhaps we aren't! Perhaps it's just like you say, something to do with their development??!! So, not sure I can help but wanted to acknowledge a share in this problem with you for support (to each other).

My DD is 22m and we had this recently at about 20m - lying in her cot chatting chatting chatting!

I think it probably is linked to a developmental leap. The good news is that it seems to have settled back down and she is going off to sleep much more promptly when we put her down... Hope that offers some reassurance?

Ours came off the back of the 18m sleep regression that seemed to go on for about 2 months in varying degrees  (NWs, resistance to naps / bedtime)... Luckily she maintained a good 2hr nap throughout and has never really been an EWer, but I was amazed and horrified by her being awake and loudly chattering til 9pm some nights.

If it's of any interest, our routine is something like this:
Awake 7/7.30am
Nap 1-3pm
BT books at 7.30pm and leave her about 7.45pm probably asleep around 8pm most nights.

I'd love the kids in bed earlier, but with working and commuting we are a bit delayed getting through the BT routine most nights, but it's working as a broad schedule for the day so that's good enough for me!!

I'm sure some of the routine-experts will be able to help you if there's anything worth trying / tweaking. Hope it settles down soon.

Thanks for your replies. I'm so tired at the mo + just when I think we're sorted everything changes again + I'm constantly stressing that I'm doing something wrong.
Put her down at 7pm tonight + took 45 mins to fall asleep. She lies there happy but just cant seem to sleep. I'm wondering if she's overtired now so that's not helping. Going to try moving nap back 15mins to 1pm for the rest of the week + see how that goes.xx

It's so hard not to stress about it...I find it hard to relax and feel guilty that whatever I try, that I've made it worse for her! It's so confusing & it has us in a right state! ...only cos we care so much that they gets what they need!

Sounds like a plan!! Let us know how you get on.

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet as tonight was such a late sleep time, so just going to monitor another day.

So, how's it going? What have the past 24hrs been like for you?

H didn't have a nap yesterday at all - that was interesting!! Ended up putting to bed @6pm, she was asleep by 6:15pm and slept 12 hours! I'm so used to her sleeping 7am-7pm and having a 1.5-2hr nap!!! But she had an hour today after being put down @ 12:45, was asleep by 1pm for an hour. Tonight, in bed by 19:20, asleep by 19:45 (& there were no tears & no bouncing in the cot - yay!).

Hopefully you've had a better night lastnight?

Tuesday she had 1 hr10 mins nap so got her in bed for 7pm + was asleep in 20mins + slept till 6.30am :-)

Yesterday had 1 .5 hrs nap then went to sleep 7.45pm after 30mins + awake at 6am.  A shorter night from longer nap I guess + took her longer to get to sleep.x
