21m and trying to get a later WU, any ideas?
« on: April 23, 2013, 22:49:48 pm »
Hello there!

I'm after your thoughts on how I can get a later WU for my 21m DD.

We have been doing set nap and BT for a while now and it's (touch wood - please don't let me be speaking too soon  :o) got us straight with the horrid NW and particularly EW we were getting. DD seems to have settled into waking at 5.50am and chatting, singing etc happily until around 6.30/45 when she'll ask to get up. Bliss I hear a lot if you say and after the pain we've been through since the 18SR I AGREE and promise I  not complaining!!! It would be nice to get a later WU for the obvious reasons but also it would mean that lunch could be that bit later and Ruby not be tired during lunch iykwim?

Anyway, on the whole our day looks like this:

WU: 5.50-6.10am (roughly 11h night)
(Lunch 11.45)
Nap:12.30-2.30 (capped - stimes allow an extra 1 if she's really tired)
BT:6.50-7pm (usually asleep straight away)

There has been some crying out at night (not every night) but I think that's teeth rather than OT.

Is it worth pushing the nap out by 15m (12.45 for 2h) say? I don't think she could manage a longer day.

Any thoughts?

Push the nap 15 mins  ;) I would anyway.
Does she hang out in the cot after WU or cry for you? - Z started to hang out around 15 mths onwards and now if he wakes early I just leave him to chit chat with a book in his cot and his soft toys ::)

Thanks Sara,

I thought that pushing the nap might be the way forward, was just a little hesitant in case she got OT so thought I'd check!

No she's happy in her cot - chats, sings etc until around 6.30/.45 so I don't think she's tired when she WU. If she was, she'd fuss/ CO etc. so I don't think she's waking up tired although we're getting a 4.45am CO a little more frequently???

Agree with sara. Around that age we had to push nap to 1pm. We did however, also have to push bedtime later too, as we found with the later nap ds wasn't ready for bed at 7. My ds had a 2-2.5hr nap & bedtime at 8  (& woke around 7am) but i seem to think sara doing same naptime with Z needed an earlier bt than my ds ie 7-7.30 (Is that right sara?). So you may find yours is the same. To start with keep bedtime at 7 but if you notice him resisting, try 15mins later. Good luck!x

Yeah as claire says z was happy with a 2 hr nap (capped - even 1hr45 sometimes during regression) and an earlier BT because he liked a long night. You may need to see how she goes with it and play around with nap length and BT if she doesn't wake herself

Interestingly enough now he needs that later BT but still the same nap length  ;) (hena your going to love the 1-0 thread in 6 months :o )

That 4ish CO sounds like teething pain - molars are a coming :( boooo

Thanks ladies!

Boo-hiss to the molar and 1-0 - I've just about recovered from 18SR and cainines    :o

I went with 12.45 today. She was out for the count a d woke herself at 2.40. She seems quite tired and a bit fussy this afternoon (I think that could be adjusting to the later nap or even teeth) so I'm going to stick with normal BT and do this for a few days and see what it brings.

I will report back!!

Thanks again xxx

Ok is this me being super paranoid (and scared witless of another Spat of OT)???? For the last 2 nights Ruby has been CO and crying 'no' 11-11.30 and then an hour later. Surely this can't be result of moving the nap by 15m to 12.45 for 2 days???

She has still been waking at 5.45/50am but I figured it would just take a while for the new set times to be established but now I'm worried I'm pushing her too much!! Or could it be something as simple as (boo hiss) molars??

Help  :o

Mmm sounds like molars maybe ... What about trying to medicate at brand see if you still get the CO? If so then less likely pain and more so developmental or OT :-\

Medicate at brand?  Sorry hon I can't work out what you mean.

Last night I gave her meds at 11.30 when she was crying our. It was pretty dark but she didn't seem too awake iykwim? She then CO around 12.30 and 5am with WU of 6.10 (11h night)

Not sure what to do? X

Pops brand = Bt sorry ipad autocorrect!
We had chaos at this age too then things settled about a mth later. I honestly think her routine looks good and it's likely developmental :-\

Lol, no worries. Thanks hon. I did medicate last night at BT s d 11.30pm. I think I'll stick with it. She's full of beans this morning, not fussy etc which would  usually mean OT - so I'm probably fretting about nothing.

Hang in there and see I guess!!! Xx
