Using Earth Balance Soyfree in Cooking
« on: May 01, 2013, 22:58:32 pm »
So I found a butter alternative that is milk and soy free called Earth Balance Soyfree Buttery Spread which is available in a nearby city to us (yeah!).  Has anyone else used this is in cooking/baking before?

I remember using it when DS2 was a baby and I was dairy free while BFing.  I think I used it in place of butter anywhere I would have used butter.  I do remember baking a cake with it and it turned out fine.  Have you used coconut oil for cooking?  We use that for almost all our cooking and even some baking.

Thanks Em! I haven't done anything with coconut oil yet, but I guess I will eventually have to...I am not really good at cooking or baking, so looking for something that I don't really have to think with (I know it sounds silly...or lazy...!!).  I would like a "spread" to use with DS1 as well, as DS2 is constantly at his food and one of the go to foods in DS1's diet is bread with margarine on it.

I use coconut oil as a spread on toast for ds2, and it is super simple to cook with. I would opt for that over Earth Balance anywhere you can since coconut oil is much healthier and doesn't have any chemicals, additives or such, but its probably handy to have some EB on hand too.
