DS slept in the travel cot until he was 3yo, but we did have to put a few extra quilts on it to make the mattress softer for him.   After that he used a ready bed -

At 2yo, we co-slept and at 26mo, he slept in a pack n play.  Later he slept in a popup tent for kids.  It is great and the bigger size still fits.

We are planning on going on vacation next week and we are planning to use a pack n play with 25mo old DS2. It's not ideal, but none of the situations are :/ My little guy has never slept in a BBB, so I don't feel comfortable letting him do that yet. I'm hoping we can squeeze a a few more months out our pack n play. Are you going to a hotel? They often have cribs available for use, maybe that would work for you guys!

Just an update - fortunately the cot bed they procided was big Enough and L settled fine to sleep in it. U fortunately though we had NWs every single night (v unusual, even when we are away at family she usually STTN fine) although she is back to STTN now we are at home. Not really sure what caused the NWs (routine/just being on hol/the cot bed itself) but pleased they seem to be over now.

I like this idea- especially for shared rooms/studio rooms...

Thanks for all your thoughts!  And glad I'm not the only one stressing about it  ;) ::)!  The place we are staying is the same cottage as last year, so I know the layout etc which is helpful.  I had thought about putting her in a single bed with several bed rails on it, but I just know she will fall out onto the hard wooden floor!  And co-sleeping is a big no-no as she has been the most terrible sleeper and I don't want us to go backwards.  But I have just found this travel cot that goes up to 5 years, and although we could really do without spending the money, I think it might be worth it if we get a more restful holiday http://www.amazon.co.uk/Babyway-Mimas-Luxury-Travel-Cot/dp/B006DZOPFC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1370031016&sr=8-7&keywords=large+travel+cot
Thought I'd post it in case useful for anyone else.

I've looked at those little tent things but just cannot believe that lo's actually go to sleep in them  :o.  My two spiriteds would go wild if I tried to put them in one of those I'm sure  ???!

Yeh I was gonna suggest getting a second hand ikea cotbed to take.. Would only work if you are driving though (and have a big car :P )
Oh yes, we had discussed this before I started the thread!...but we wouldn't fit it in the car and DH looked at me like I was completely bonkers for even suggesting it  ::) :D.

Can you take the sides off or something for when they are older? I thought the tent would be for when they were a little older and understood what was going on... Although i'm tempted to look into one for our nex trip away...

Well, DS was super excited when he saw the tent.  I let him get used to it at home.  I told him that he would be sleeping in there in our holiday.  So he got the idea what it was for, i let him choose which softtoys to bring and which pillow/blanket.  It is really handy, as it folds into really small flat thing and much lighter than a pack n play, that travel cot.

Katy, usually the travel cot/pack n play has a zipper opening, like a little tunnel that LOs an climb in and out safely as it is very close to the floor.  Even though it is 120cm long like a cot, DS just wouldnt fit it anymore.  That's why he had to go into BBB despite my wish to keep him in the cot till he is 5! Lol. DS uses an adult sized pillow, so perhaps that doesnt help!  The pop up tent we have comes with a air mattress and a sleeping bag exactly the shape of the bottom of the tent.  It has windows also that an roll up for air or close to minimize distraction.

We are away at the moment staying at my mum's where dd has a crib and her own room - no problems. But we did a trip within a trip at the weekend and stayed 2 nights in a B&B in Wales for my cousin's wedding, and there she was in a travel cot.  The travel cot is obviously smaller than the crib, but that wasn't a problem and she napped fine and went to bed fine.  The problem was that we were sharing a room, and DH and I are apparently a huge distraction for her!  I think she usually wakes up a couple of times a night but resettles when she's in her own space, so as far as I'm concerned she sttn!  But we got NW that lasted forever even though it was dark and we're laying down, she's all "Hi Mama, hi Daddy!"  It was cute for about 5mins lol.  Very glad to get rid of our roommate!  Hope this isn't an issue for you and you all have a restful trip :)

I always put both them in a double bed with DD next to the wall and DS on the edge, when DD wakes she ends up in with me.

When we went away in Jan they slept in Bunk Beds (and DD ended up with me at 2am if she woke and couldn't settle again).

Last week they slept in the double bed all night  :).

We did much the same at 18 mths as well as DD wouldn't go in the travel cot.

I think we will attempt the travel cot and see. If it fails then will have to push the bed against the wall and use a bed guard so effectively she will be in a BGB. Yikes!! I like the idea of the bed Mashi posted but can see her just up and out...

We've done various combinations and have found the easiest one to replicate rails (DS is in a cabin bed at home) is to get some extra pillows or cushions and put them under the sheet on the non wall side. It's just enough to make him roll over back to the wall!
