Leftovers for breakfast?
« on: May 19, 2013, 22:50:44 pm »
It's something I'm looking into now for DS because he won't have breakfast no matter what I offer. Due to food intolerances I have very limited choice. So I was thinking of giving him leftovers and was just curious to see what others are doing about that? Do you give meat even for breakfast? It would be mostly meat and veggies for him.

I usually give dd a more 'conventional' breakfast, but have definitely given her leftovers including meat and veg too.  It's only social norms that determine the types of food we eat at certain times of day but really it's all fuel for the body, so I have no problem giving dd 'trees' (her word for broccoli) if she wants it for breakfast!  And bacon and sausages are typical for breakfast so why not chicken or fish?

We do it all the time. I used to live in Thailand so got used to having curry and rice for breakfast - it's only a cultural thing to have certain breakfast foods!

I know you've already made your mind up now, but I was going to say just as pps. Social norms etc and just do it. When I've been away I've found rice, noodles, meat, fish etc for breakfast the norm and for me they are a much more welcome breakfast too. I can really only face cereal in the evening when I shouldn't be eating anything!
I made either omelet or sausages for DS almost every morning for  months (although we are in a muesli phase right now) because it was the only time of day he would accept protein.  I've only gone back to muesli because he has increased his protein intake at dinner a little.
