Help - confused about after 5pm EASY?
« on: May 20, 2013, 23:08:27 pm »
Is it not EASY after 5?  My daughter is on 3.5 hr easy but still waking during the night.
Her evening goes like this
3:30pm eat
5:30 catnap
6pm bf (should I wait on this?  It's when she wakes up...)
7:15 sleep
9:30 eat
No dream feed - didn't work for us

Thanks!

You're right that the EAS pattern is slightly different in the evening.  The catnap isn't a proper sleep as such, so you don't have to do a feed on waking from it.  The afternoon goes eat, activity, catnap, activity, eat as part of BT routine, sleep.  But if you want to do an extra feed at that time you can :) The main thing to avoid is feeding to sleep.

There are some same routines here which might help you : Help! How to get my 1 year old to sleep on her own without rocking/holding?

Thanks Ladies!

Violet is sleeping better now.  Her day goes like this (approx times)
E 7:30am
A 8:00am
S 9:30am
E 11:00am
A 11:30am
S 1:00pm
E 2:30pm
A 3:00pm
S between 3:45-4:30 (catnap about 40 mins)
A til feeding
E 5:30pm
Bath etc. 6:15pm
Bedtime 6:45pm
Cluster feed 7:30pm (she needs this otherwise she wakes up screaming mad at about 9pm)
Nightfeed 4:00am

She has never been a dream feeder :(  it just makes her wake up more!  Any other ideas on how to get rid of the 4:00am feed?  Also, she gets up and talks to herself around midnight and/or 2am - not sure what to do about this!

Her A times seems about right, there is one a bit long but there is not much to do about it right now; if you'll shorten it you have a long A before BT time. The waking up at night and chatting *could* be a bit UT, but if it's not a problem yet and she is resettling in short time then I wouldn't change anything in the routine yet. If it does become a problem then you can try and increase her A time by 10min, though I'll be cautious doing that as she is already high on her A times.
It's still normal for her to have a NF at 4. In fact many babies still have 2NF at this age so I wouldn't worry about it now.

I agree, the 4am feed is very normal for babies who don't have a dream feed.  DD dropped it herself at 7 months here :)
