3-2 transition - confused about feeding times
« on: May 27, 2013, 19:20:54 pm »
I posted the question below in the 3-2 transition discussion thread but didn't receive any response so thought I'd try here as it is really an EASY routine question.

My LO is 5 and a half months old and we have started on the road to the 3-2 transition this last week.  She started short napping with 2 hours A time so I have increased her A time to 2hrs 15 and that seemed to solve the nap issue.

I think we are going to try increasing her A time to 2.5 hrs tomorrow as she did a short nap this morning, and by capping naps at 1.5 hrs I will still follow 4 hour EASY with a short cat nap.

When I get her A time to 2.75 hrs then I was hoping to drop the cat nap (I know that you are meant to do it at 3 hrs A time but I think she will sleep for 2 hrs or so).

So our EASY will look something like this I think:

WU                7am
E (milk) & A   7am
E (solids)        8am
S                   9.45am (2 hrs)
E (milk) & A   11.45am
E (solids)        12.45pm
S                    2.30pm (2 hrs)
E (milk) & A    4.30pm
E (solids)         5.30pm
E (milk)           6.45pm
BT                   7pm
DF                  10.45pm

Does that look ok?  This assumes she can nap for two hours - at the moment I am having to wake her after an hour and a half so I think she will do it if her A time is ok.  If not I can just bring BT forward.

I am a bit confused about her milk feedings though - they will be nearly five hours apart at first and then under three hours gap between her last two feeds.  Is that ok?  Or should I be doing something different with her milk feeds?  Should we be dropping one of these feeds and if so when?

At the moment we have only just started weaning so we are just doing lunch, but I assume that by the time she gets to 2hrs 45mins A time she will be on three meals a day.

Also, in the 'ideal' EASY post transition (that is on another thread) I am confused about where the feeds go?!
A: 7am-10am
S: 10:00-11:30
A: 11:30-2:30
S: 2:30-4pm
A: 4pm-7pm

Don't know if I am making this more complicated than it should be!  I remember feeling confused during the 3 to 4 hour EASY and that worked out ok - shame it doesn't stay the same for long!

It really doesn't matter so much at this age if feeds are spread a little differently :)  Very tiny babies need those regular feeds, but bigger babies can last longer and also end up with some solids in the mix too to tide them over until the next milk feed.

The pattern for the day on two naps is:

WU and E (milk)
Breakfast an hour later
A
Nap 1
E (milk)
Lunch an hour later
A
Nap 2
E (milk)
Dinner an hour later
A
E (milk as part of bedtime routine)

Yes that means the last A time is pretty packed with eating, but that's ok :)

Hope that helps!
