Hi Katie80,

Thanks for the reply.

Have you just cut it down to 30min?
He was having 40 minutes for his morning nap, but once he started waking after 40mins on his own, I cut it back to 30mins. This has been since the beginning of June. He will be 12mo on the 17th.

I wake him in the mornings, but he leave him to sleep in the afternoons, although he hasn't gone beyond 70 minutes in the afternoons for the last 5 weeks since he has been sttn.

Are you sure he's not hit his second wind and that's why he's fighting the pm nap, but drops off immediately when in the pram?
You are probably right, looking back at recent days, he has been going down a little late and the days before that when he was going down well in his cot he was closer to 3.5hrs of A time.

I wouldn't push him much past 13hr from wake-up
I'll aim for shorter days - He is also having a longer BF at night than before - presumably as it is the only one left but it is pushing BT out, so we need to try and bring his evening schedule forward to counter this.

His last couple days have looked as follows:

7/6/13
Woke 5:15, did not settle
Breakfast 07:00
Nap 9:15, 30 mins
Lunch 12:30
Nap - 14:00 - would not settle, eventually asleep in pram at 14:25 for 50 minutes
BF 19:00
BT 19:20

8/6/13
Woke up 05:35
Breakfast 07:00
Nap 09:15, 30 minutes
Lunch 12:20
Nap 13:45 then took 15mins to settle in cot, slept for 40 minutes
BF 18:40
BT 19:00

9/6/13
Woke up 5:40, DH settled, slept until 6:40
Breakfast 7:10
Nap 10:30, woke on his own at 11:00
lunch 12:20
Nap 14:30, played in his cot until 14:40 - 70 minutes
BF 18:30
BT 19:15 after v.long feed, and went down protesting, DH had to settle Eventually asleep 20:15

Presumably he didn't go down happily tonight as he was UT? But I can't see how I can lengthen the A time after his 2nd nap and still get him to bed on time.... should I shorten his first A time or shorten his first nap so he has his second one earlier? I'm really unclear on how to avoid the UT at the end of the day.

I'd try to shorten the first A time, since you only want him to do 30min anyway. Will he go down after only 3.5hr?

So, something like this...
Wake 6:30 am
Nap 1 10-10:30 am
Nap 2 1:30-3:00 pm
BT 7/7:30 pm

Do you think that might work?

Thanks Katie80. DS slept until 7 this am when I woke him!!

Our day yesterday looked like this:
Woke - 06:00
Nap 9:30 to 10:00 - I had tried to put him down at 8:15 but he was having none of it!
Nap 13:40 to 15:20
BT 19:15

He woke three times in the night with teething pains - blood on the sheets this morning, poor wee man!

I've been re-reading through the 2-1 transitions and typical sleep patterns at this age and a lot of people go for a super-short A time first thing. As my concern with his routine usually centres around him waking up too late in the afternoon I thought I would give it a go yesterday but no success, I had another go today - I put him down at 9 and, much to my surprise, by 9:10 he was asleep.

I'll aim for his second nap by 1pm and leave him to sleep then see what we get for the night.

Thanks again, when I look back over the last 6 weeks, I am amazed at how far we've come  :D

Oh, yesterday looks about perfect to me!  (((Hugs))) for the teething NWs... it's so sad to know they're hurting from that. :(

If you can get him down early for the first nap, that will likely help.  But, the problem with that is often LOs end up fighting it, because they need more A time after their night sleep.  I'd say 3-3.5hr is pretty normal at this age, just like you had yesterday.  But, however it works best for you is the way to go!

Yay!  It's great to be able to see progress, isn't it?!? ;D
