6 month old. Habitual waking or hunger?
« on: June 04, 2013, 20:24:35 pm »
DS2 at 3mos was going from 1030-6 without a feed. However about a mth ago he started waking at 3am. I did wake to sleep for 3 nites and he then slept til 620. However this only lasted a couple of days then started waking between 4/430. Whenever he wakes at night he doesnt cry. He talks . Sometimes it goes on over an hour. He'll become morr agitated at which point i go into his room and place hand on him. I always end up feeding him and he takes 5-7 oz. He then settled himself within about 15mins until 8ish.
During day he eats 3x4oz plus 3 meals (porridge, veg and rice) then 7-8 oz dream feed at 10.
He has pm nap around 230 for about 2.5hrs. Morning naps hard as i take ds1 to nursery and then pick up at 12. He therefore sometimes jst naps for 30mins in buggy. Sometimes i manage 1.5hrs if lucky.
I dont knw if 4am nw is hunger or bad habit reinforced by me feeding him?

Hi there!

I suspect it might be hunger.  I noticed that you just have 3 milk feeds during the day and most babies this age are still on milk feeds in addition to any night feeds.  Is there any way you can introduce another feed during the day?

Hes always been quite fussy with his bottle-prefers food to milk. I am feeding him every 4 hrs. 10, 2, 6. DF at 10 then his 4am.
He must have known ive been talking about him tho - last night i heard him around 430 but he settled himself without me going in. He then woke at 6am. He still wasnt crying but started sounding grumpy so i fed him at 645. However he fell straight back to sleep after taking only 5 oz.and i had to wake him at 745 to get ready to take ds1 to nursery??

Why not try keeping the morning bottle (eg. At 6:45 or 7 am)?  Formula or breast milk contains more calories per ounce than solids so if you want him to feel full, bottles are the way to go at this age.

Ok thanks. It was 4am again this morning and i fed him at 5. His naps were pretty bad yesterday afternoon (noisy visitors!) and i feel that makes a big difference too. Ill keep persisting! :-\
