How to drop down to 3 bottles?
« on: June 17, 2013, 04:07:39 am »
Hi

My DD is 8.5months old. She has been on solids since 4 months old and is on 3 meals a day. Iam thinking of dropping down to 3 bottles and I've read the dropping bottle post with sample routines.

My DD is on about 4 hrs A time, Iam winding how my EASY would look?

She WU between 6-6.30am
E:7-7.15am with solids at about 8.30am
A: 4hrs
S: 10.30-11.30/12

E:12-12.15pm with solids at 1-1.30pm
A: 4hrs
E: 4pm
S: 4-4.45/5pm

E: 5.30-5.45pm dinner
BT bottle at 7.15pm and bed at 7.30pm

No night feeds, I find she isn't hungry first thing in the morning and her morning bottle she only takes 150mls the 12pm one has between 150-200mls, the 4pm and BT bottles are always 180-200mls.

If I was to drop a bottle which one would I drop? In the post it says the mid morning one, and to have the bottle before the 2nd nap, where my DD has a late 2nd nap.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks :) :)

The sleep times don't really matter, the common pattern is to do solids lunch and then the bottle before the nap.

In your case instead of a bottle at 12/12.15 I would do solids lunch then or a little later if she will let you and then offer a full bottle around 3pm before the nap. You should find that she takes more at the bottle in the afternoon than she has been taking at 12.

What do you think?

So that would be 8hrs between the 1st and 2nd bottle and then 4.5hrs between 2nd and 3rd bottle. 8hrs seems a long time.

She always takes more at the 4pm bottle compared to the 12pm one.

Once they are on solids and 2 naps you don't get a set EASY anymore when it comes to milk feeds. You can offer a snack before her first nap and offer water or formula in a sippy with her mid day solids. You need her milk intake to be a minimum of 20oz until she gets to 1 but the milk in her food also counts towards that intake. They should be taking some water with food at this age too.

Her bottles aren't big for her age, my two took at least 8oz (240ml) when they were on 3 bottles so you can offer her more and see if she takes 240-270ml at that pre-nap bottle. By the time they get hit 1, most babies/toddlers are on 2 bottles, morning and bedtime.

Shge is still on the young side to drop to 3 bottles, you can leave things how they are until she gets to  about 10 months and then drop to 3 bottles if you are concerned.

Cool thanks for that :)

I think I'll just stick to the 4 bottles for now and reassess at 10 months
