5 mo old suddenly spitting up a lot

My baby just turned 5 mo yesterday.  For the last 3-4 days he's been spitting up a LOT.  Sometimes it seems most of what he ate.  He does spit up a bit generally, but not usually this much. I haven't changed my diet.  I do have to supplement him with formula because I have never made quite enough milk and he's so big (he's nearly 18lbs and tall).  I only supplement him when he seems to not be satisfied which is generally in the evenings.    He doesn't seem to spit up the formula at all.  He's currently on a 4 hour routine.  Any ideas?  Should I be feeding him more if he spits up?

Is everyone as stumped as me?  No one has replied :-(

It seems to be a morning thing more so - although over the weekend it went into the afternoon.  Is it possible to be acid reflux at this age?  I feel like my baby is rejecting my breast milk.  I desperately don't want to stop breast feeding.

Do you think he could just have a tummy bug?

It may be that the formula is thicker and so doesn't come up as easily. When did you start supplementing? Is he just getting milk or solids too?

How does he seem after being sick?  Does he still seem hungry or not?  I think I'd base any decision on whether to feed again on that.

He doesn't seem hungry after he spits up (which I is why I haven't fed him more as of yet)

I hadn't thought about a tummy bug.  Thanks!  Today seemed much better.  I've been supplementing all along (except a few weeks I seemed to catch up with him and then he had a big growth spurt).  He just started solids a couple days ago (after this started happening).

I keep looking for them, but haven't seen anything that looks like teeth.  I'm convinced that he is teething as he gets really cranky and chews on his hand.  I always wonder if he's hungry or teething.  How long before the tooth does teething start?

Has your lo been very active? started rolling over, crawling, ect? My LO has always spit up. At about 5 months he started spitting up ALOT! Took him to the dr. Cuz it worried me. He was absolutely perfect. Dr said it may be that he's moving around a lot. He had started crawling about that point so his milk was getting all shaken up in his belly. I started putting him in basically any kind of stationary stand up activity center and it has helped a lot! If your LO is still having a problem maybe you could try standing him up

I find sometiems I an see the gums quite white and a little swollen when T and Z teethe/d have a nosey sometiems you an tell if giving teething gel makes them less cranky and settle too x
