Hello,
I just about finished BFing my DS. He would go days without anything then one day he might want a quick sip. I don't offer and don't refuse. Lately he's been furious if I don't give him breast milk! He was sleeping 7-6am and now wakes at night frantic for milk. I tried a bottle at night but he freaks even more. During the day he positions himself for a feed but once distracted, forgets about it. Why would he go off the boob and have nothing for days and suddenly act like he needs it (half the time he's just sucking, not drinking)?

It could be a comfort thing.  If I recall, there's a stage of separation anxiety around 12m (ish), so it could be he's going for the closeness rather than the milk itself, if that makes any sense.

Or could be teeth?

It does make sense thanks! I'm hoping to try for another baby and thought we were all done with BFing. I'm wondering if hormones still start to regulate even if DS nurses once a day or every few days.

Has you menstrual cycles returned to something resembling 'normal'?  If so, I wouldn't worry too much about the irregular feeds here and there.  Your chances are probably just as good as for someone who isn't doing an occasional BF (and there are plenty of women who BF while pg) :)  Good luck

I was still feeding 4-5 times a day when I got pg with DS2. It's definitely doable.

Maybe he was just in a nursing strike before and that is over now.
