Changing from BF to neocate
« on: July 25, 2013, 19:39:48 pm »
Hi,

My nearly 5month old is refusing to take a bottle. He has been exclusively BF but as has CMP allergy can only be given neocate which tastes disgusting. i am mixing it with expressed milk and trying twice a day but he screams and hates it. He starts in childcare in about 6 weeks and I don't know what to do to get him to take a bottle. Any advice gratefully received!

xx

Hugs. Apparently neocate is a lot more accepted when sweetened ;)
I used golden syrup (just a little) in the bottles then weaned it over a week...
Other mums have used brown or raw sugar, vanilla essence or maple syrup.

I also had more success when Tom was drowsy when feeding, either as soon as he woke, or right before a nap (both in his room in the dark)

Walking while feeding can help, rocking slowly and/or singing/humming.

Thanks for that, I have been mixing it with hard earned expressed breast milk but he still refuses. I didn't know you could sweeten it so will give that a try!
