PU/PD not crying? 12 months
« on: July 31, 2013, 00:24:39 am »
Ok so this has been going on nightly and daily now.  I put her in Crib tryto pat her bum she just sits smiles and then stands up. I eel trying to lie her down but sits back up and then stands.  She snt crying but this will go on for a loooking time.  I get frustrated and slip out to see if sh will just crawl around and then sleep.  She screams murder as soon as I leave so I go back in and then end up lying her down over and over again. It s getting so tiring as I also ave a 3.5 year old who I must also get to sleep.  Here is my EASY now..

Up around 6:30 to 7:00
Nap around 12:30 to 12:45 normally until 2:45 or 3;00
Last bottle at 7:30.
Then the fun begins

She as always been on the hig A side and never shows signs of being tired at night.

Am I really to do PU/pD if she isn't actually crying until I leave.  I am starting to believe this problem will never get resolved.  I never had an issue with sleep with my son so I am confused.  We are having inlaws watch them for four days so I want to get this figured out for my poor mother-in-laws sake.  Is she under tired, overtired.

Nope! PUPD (or PD in your case) is only meant to be done when LO is crying and needs help. If she is not crying, then you need to just step back, not make eye contact or engage her, and wait til she needs you. If you are doing PD with a LO who is not crying you are still a prop and she isn't learning anything. It is also much more likely to become a game.

My gut would say she's OT or has hit her second wind by the time you are putting her down at BT, as that's a really long day for a 12mo old on one nap. This was classic for my DD... she would chat and play and just generally faff about in her crib when giddy OT. It's super frustrating. Were you ever able to try the earlier BT we talked about before?

I know she was not well the last time you posted on your NW thread. I'm assuming she's feeling better now?  How are the nights going?

Thank you .. I never thought of her as a toddler until now.  I thought since most naps until 3 a 7:45 BT would be ok.  Her ear infection has cleared up although she still wakes up once.  Your advice on standing back, do I keep going back to crib to lay her down?  Yes I think it has turned ion a age which is frustrating.  I just don't see this getting easier.

It might be, I could be wrong. I'm looking at the day as a whole and for her age it's pretty long since she's on one nap. A lot of time when LOs do a long A to their nap (she is doing 5.5-6hr), they like the second A to be shorter, with the total day still being around 12-12.5hr. Its not that far off really, I just thought the NWs you mentioned before sounded like OT, so an earlier BT might be worth a try.

When she cries for help (a genuine cry) yes, otherwise just let her be even if she is up walking around. It's not easy, but if you stay consistent it will get better.

Thank you. I will give it a try for early BT as I always thought second A time had to always be longer
