Too hot for swaddling?
« on: August 03, 2013, 11:01:40 am »
Lately our bedroom has been very hot at night (28 degrees celsius) and we don't have air conditioning.
Surely that's too hot to swaddle my 7 week-old daughter?

That means I had to "let her free" but she goes crazy with her arms, and she's also always trying to suck on her thumb, which gets very frustrating for her because she doesn't have hand coordination yet and she manages to get the thumb in her mouth 50% of the times. Her frustration results in tears most of the time.

When I give her the dummy, her little hands always manage to make it fly somewhere.

What should I do to let her sleep peacefully?

Can you put her down in just a nappy and swaddle in a large muslin?  We did that for a while.  Summer Infant do some I think - we picked up a pack from jojo maman bebe but I'm sure other places do swaddling Muslins too. Or our 4 month old (at the time) slept in a room which was 28-30 degrees in a woombie (one with an air mesh over his chest) with only one arm out and he was ok.  It is hard in this weather though...

Have you tried pointing a fan at a bowl of ice or a wet towel?  That helped cool jack's room down by a degree or two.  And we open the windows in his room in the morning,  then shut them and pull the blinds all day,  and open the window again at night and that seems to help a bit too

I had never heard of pointing the fan to a bowl of ice or a wet towel, what a great advice! I'll try that tonight, thank you!  :)

I swaddled my kids in just a diaper in the heat, at the time I had some thin cotton swaddle blankets (were thin because my mom had used them on my baby brother 20 years prior!).  This time around I got these:

I bought those Aden and Anais swaddling blankets straight after I saw that the Royal Baby had one... figured they must be good!  ;D

Lol, i noticed that! I had seen them and wanted something not white or light (our water is yellowish brown most of the year and stains light clothes)
