I have 2 kids, almost 7 years old (DS) and 15 months old (DD).  I work full time so both went/goes to daycare and I know they routinely have over 6 hours of A before their naps, especially my DD.  My DD is waking around 6/6:15 and goes down for her nap at 12:30 (preset naptime at daycare).  My DS was similar.  That is a long time, but somehow they manage  :o.  I wish DD would sleep in but with our work schedules, it is nearly impossible not to mention that she was a chronic EW (5/5:30) until she switched to 1 nap, so 6 AM WU is a big improvement.

What time does she go to bed at night?? Do you think she would be doing such a high A if she was at home with you??

Im just wondering as it seems insanely long!

I don't think it is insanely long! My DS is lsn and routinely would go from a 5a.m.wakeup to a 2pm nap. His choice! It does mean the afternoon A is pretty short though. Bedtime was around 7.30

She goes to bed around 7:45 PM, sometimes 7:30 if really tired.  Because I work long hours and DH has a long commute, she doesn't get home until 5:30. And we don't eat until closer to 6:30, so there is really no way to do bedtime any earlier.  I'm lucky in that while she is spirited in nature, she handles OT fairly well.  She does play a bit of catch on weekends, and will wake around 7/7:30.  I still put her down at 12:30 just to stay consistent.  I guess she's not HSN because her naps are usually 1.5-2 hours, never more.  The way I see it is, if she needs more sleep then she will just have to do a longer nap.  She usually wakes up from her naps happy.

Hey ladies!

I think it all depends very much on the LOs and what works best for them. My DD has always had a longer morning and shorter time to BT, it's just what works best for her. Other LOs respond  best the other way around. I think if your LO is napping and sleeping well at night then the's no problem. Some parents at that  age go with set nap and BT which clearly takes no real account of A times, nap time is nap
Time and BT is BT!!!

My 13 month old has pulled some 6 1/2 hour A times lately and ive found she naps better for it. Usually her A time is 5 1/2 - 6 hours in the morning and she will only sleep 1 1/2 hours. On the days she has done over 6 hours A time shes slept 2-2 1/2 hours. Im unsure if its something I should encourage because I thought 5 1/2 A was a lot for her age and isnt always something she can do, today for example shes gone for a CN after just 3 1/2 hours A time.

Yes, this is what my friend says! Anything under 6hrs and the nap is 1.5hrs but whenever I see her dd she is exhausted, rubbing her eyes all morning. It's as if she is napping longer after 6hrs but can't actually handle such a long A! My friend says she can't find any other option since her dd refuses all cn after a 1.5hr nap, but she also doesn't tack on so Im sure she is really tired. I wonder what could be done in this situation? A morning cn or should she just stick to the 6hr A and her dd will eventually get used to it?

sounds like my DD to a T, she is exactly the same!
I go by my little one now, if she is very tired in the morning or wakes around 5am then i give her a CN in the morning. If shes happy then i will go to 6hrs A before her nap, if we are out somewhere then sometimes she goes over the 6 hours and we get a better nap so everyones happy. Alternating 1 nap days and 2 nap days seems to work for us, i think it stops OT getting out of control. I dont know if this would work for your friend though because her LO is quite a bit older.

This is so interesting to me, how each lo is so, so different!
Sadly, getting my friend to use this forum is a lost cause, not because she is against BW, but just because she is not the kind of person to be part of any forum...

I would like to maybe pass on some info to her. When you do a morning cn, how long is it? How long is the a after?

Thats a shame, I know I have learnt so much from here alone and I think id be in a right mess with my LO if I hadn't of joined.
Our 2 type of days are usually -

WU - 6
Nap - 12
BT - 6.30

WU - 5
Nap - 9.15 - 10 (sometimes I will cap at 30min if I don't think shes really tired)
Nap - 1.30
BT - 6.30

Hope its some help to her :-)

When I have done AM CN to catch up - it was usually a car nap at around 9.30am capped at 20m with nap 2h after WU from CN
