How much A does your 15 month old have?!
« on: August 10, 2013, 11:01:58 am »
Hi pretty much as above just wondered what average A is around this age? My LO I'd 15 months next week and generally does 5 hours pretty easy but lunchtime nap was 2 hours and is now 1.5!
No nap refusal or BT refusal and self settles really well and is generally a happy bunny.
We've had a few 10.5-11 hour nights with 5.45 WU but I'm wondering if shorter naps and nights could be due to 2 front teeth and a molar coming in rather that an increase in A!?  Teeth don't really bother him and doesn't wake up screaming just a little cry then sometimes a chat to himself, if does cry the min I go in he's happy!!
Just wondered what anyone thoughts are?

I can't really help with your question but am interested in hearing others A times and how much night sleep they get. My DD is 13 months and only getting 10- 10.5 hours a night no matter what we do. Her A time in the morning is between 5.5 - 6.5 hours unless she seems very tired and we do a 2 nap day. Her nights are to short leading to an early wake up and then we have to push her first nap to have any kind of normality to the day.

We are doing 5hr20A then 1hr20-1hr45 nap, then 5 hr to BT. Seems to be working for now! Teeth can make them extra tired, maybe pull back by 15 minutes and see how you go? Or Hyland's teething tablets seemed to help when she got her molars in. HTH!

Thanks ladies, I'll try a couple of shorter A days and see what happens. It all goes wrong mon-wed at nursery when he just sleeps rubbish so we have SEBT on those days!!! Fingers crossed those teeth pop through soon I can just see 1 corner of the molar...I have some nelsons teethers powders and have been giving meds before naps! Guess it could be an OT build up as well as last week naps and night sleep was short!

Hey Zoe,

Well it does sound like teeth are doing their worst. Do you want to post your LOs typical day to see if there is any need for a bit if tweak?

Hi Zoe

My LO is 15.5 months old and we do 6-6.25 A before AM nap and 4.5-5 A to bt. Since being almost consistently on one nap , his nights are 11.5-12 hrs , before they were around the 10.5-11 hr mark. Nap is 1.5 hrs max generally.
He is LSN though and has high A for his age:)
Hth :)

My LO does 5.5 - 6 hours post AM nap but her naps can range from 1.15-2.45 hours  :o I think when teeth are thrown into the mix, everything just goes cahoots until those settle down! Or they're on some sort of meds that make them tolerate pain better  ::)

I do think it's probably teeth related!

Hi thanks for all the replies, his day used to look like this at home
WU 6.45-7
Nap 11.45/12.15 for 2 hours most of time
BT 7.15

Nursery days WU
6.45
Nap anytime from 11.30/12.30 and anything from 40 mins to 1.5 but mostly 1 hour!!
BT 6.30 if rubbish naps

Was quite consistently on 1 nap but yesterday we were at the park and fell asleep at 4.45pm for 30 mins so that made BT late 8pm and we had visitors with all the kids running around so earlier was impossible as he was too OS.

Hubby apop from 5.15 to 6.45 this morning which we've not had to do for months!

Tbh your day looks good so teeth are likely to be the culprit.

Have you tried meds before bed, DM etc?

My DD was a real monkey for biting I think around the same age when she started cutting her cainines.

With meds, my DDs temp tended to
Spike so u did give her meds before nap
And BT - i guess you need to judge if that's what your LO needs. Some pain relief might help him settle better?

Re: DM I used a syringe and didn't even sit her up. I have to say DM didnt work for us but do for lots of people. If your LOs good at self settling then u wouldn't have thought itd be a problem even if your LO did stir. When it got really bad, I used to set the alarm for 3/3.30am DM her then - that did work (as painfully as it was for me  ::)) - it was enough to get her through to
A decent WU.

Par for the course IME I'm afraid. He's not being naughty, just doesn't know what to do with himself or what an earth is going on. Ruby was much the same. Your're doing a great job hon, I promise it does get better. Here to hold your hand through the bumps in the meantime x

I know I feel so sorry for him sometimes it's such a whirlwind the first couple of years with all they have going on! He quite likes to bite his pooh bear lovey so that sometimes gets a good chewing as we read BT stories!
Today we've had 2 naps which is not like him but obviously needs to catch up from a couple of EW, nursery tomorrow so back to OT and EBT...!
Godsend today having friends visit with a 3 year old and he loves to follow older kids about so that kept him happier for a while, only good thing with nursery is he likes the stimulation!
