Im looking deeper into the research on probiotic before I give it. It's  the only thing shown to work better than placebo in randomized trial. She is EBF

Probiotics won't ever be a bad thing YK? So there is no harm in giving them ;)

If you're going to use them, Kellymom suggests using one that has more Bifidobacteria than Lactobacillus (http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/preventing-thrush/).  Also bear in mind that probiotics are naturally occurring in breastmilk too. :)

Links about the specific probiotic, one is the abstract from the American Journal of Ped., and other is the same abstract from the companies website with graphs:

I'm leaning towards trying it...

I'm thinking about trying it too!  What did you decide to do?

I'm still reading, but Wiki, which I know is not always right, says the organism in Biogaia is in breast milk already, and if I increase my intake then the amount in breast milk goes up too...I would rather take it than give it to DD if it was an option.

Yes, that's really my feeling on it as well.
If it will transfer through, then it's worth a shot and might make you feel better too :)

So I gave it and tasted it. There is a high powered study on its safety in the NICU, and after Ped. mentioned the potential of  intra-partum Abx, which I received, modifying  the baby's gut flora, I'm okay with it and hoping for a positive result.

I'm also doing massage, leg cycles, increased winding, etc. and I tried the nursing position Ali suggested, but it's tricky!

I prop myself up with pillows behind me on my bed and then use a widgey feeding pillow to support LO. I slide my bum forward so I can recline against the pillows. It really is just like slouching.

@ Roeola : I've started taking probiotics myself in hopes that it will transfer to Baby. Got advice from nutritionist that I respect and have been advised by before, so we shall see if that helps in any way. I used the simethicone for about 5 days/ wk, but decided that it really wasn't making enough of a difference so I stopped with it. I'd rather not be giving anything, unless it is necessary or really helps the situation.

@ Zacsmumme: thanks for the link to the burping technique. Going to give it a go with my son. He is IMPOSSIBLE to get wind out of. I KNOW the wind is in there, but no matter what techniques I've been trying, it just won't come out!! Neither my husband nor I have been successful with any consistently ??? It's frustrating because I know it causes him to be so uncomfortable and in such pain and he's been sick a couple of turns because of it. Am hopeful of this technique. I've been trying ones from YouTube and everything. Grrr. Thanks!!
