Suddenly a 13 month old with NW's and EW's...HELP!
« on: August 28, 2013, 23:52:13 pm »
Well I have been seeing lots of posts on this topic and need help.  My 13 month lil girl has never been a great napper however she had usually done well at bed.  At 12 months she got her molars one after another.  I believe the teething is not the issue for now.
What has been happening is about 2 months ago when at home with me naptime in her crib became an issue.  Before this point I could usually put her in her crib and she would nap for about 45 mins to an hour; AM and PM naps.  All of a sudden she would get tense the moment we walked into her room and as soon as I put her in her crib she would cry and scream.  I work FT so this was only on weekends and crying it out at naptime was not working.  During the week she is at Grandma's.  Typically she goes down in AM b/w 8:30-9:30 and PM around 1PM.  Both naps at grandma's are about 1 hour give or take.
Then all of a sudden at bedtime she did the same crying and screaming.  Eventually that worked itself out but now for 3 weeks we have been having EW's and about 3 or 4 nights a week NW's.  Her NW's are anywhere from 12-4 and she will be up for 2 hours.  If we try to just soothe her in her bed at the NW's she ends up screaming and rocking, etc... does not work.  We end up snuggling in our bed (my hubby does this) and after about an hour or two she falls back asleep.  Many times after her NW's she is wide awake and wants to play and chat.    Her EW's are usually b/w 4:45 AM - 5:15 AM.  Prior she would go to bed around 8PM and wake at 6:15 AM.  I would really like to get back to that :)
Please help! Any suggestion is welcome

It sounds to me like she might be getting ready for 1 nap tbh. If it were me I would cap one of the naps to 30 mins max and then allow for a good long nap for the other. EWings and happy NWings are often signs of UT or being ready for a transition. It may be now that she has got herself a bit OT from the long NWings.

I do just have to point out that at BW we do not condone any form of CIO or CC as Tracy Hogg, the original BW believed it broke the trust between child and parent.

I also think that unless you intend to continue with her sleeping in your bed then it would be best to work on that now. Was she an independent sleeper before all this started?
