Cleaning bottles when using neocate
« on: September 03, 2013, 08:15:29 am »
So unlike normal formula neocate is a @&$)( to clean out of the bottles once the feed is finished.
I have just had to give back a borrowed electric steriliser (she had another baby ;) ) and I kind of counted on this to kill off anything I missed as I can never fully clean the bottles from that 'film' that seems to cling....

I'm currently scrubbing in hot water with dish washing liquid in it, rinsing and letting air dry, but I can never get it all. Should I just let it go? Any ideas on getting the bottles properly clean? It kind of irritates me even though I'm sure there is o issue health wise.

Is it because of your water type? We live in a soft water area but my MIL lives in a hard water area, bottles made and cleaned at her house always felt like they had a film still on them, even after sterilising. I was always glad to come home and get them properly clean!

Well I don't think it's the water as its everywhere I wash them (on hols etc too) have to scrub like a crazy person! Plus Zs formula never did this at all!

Are you using a bottle scrubber?  Sorry, but I couldn't tell from your post.

Never used Neocate with DS but I assume Nutramigen AA would hjave a similar consistency?

I found that if I rinsed them and let them soak right after he finished his bottle it would get much cleaner.

Thank goodness it's not just me ;) I was starting to wonder if maybe I was just doing something wrong! With the steriliser at least I knew the leftover 'dust' on some of the bottles was sterilised YK? - Jenny did you just do what Im doing? Im assuming its ok ???

Yip, washed as well as I could (usually in the dishwasher then sterilised them when he was small. I didn't sterilise after 6 months though

Can't really remember what we did but definitely rinse straight after they are finished - I'm sure ours just went throught the dishwasher then got sterilised.

Time to switch to a cup maybe?  It could be easier to clean...

Mmm Erin, I have been thinking that come 12 months he goes onto a different one anyway - which I would get him to take by cup. Problem is ATM he is sick as - virus, now ear infection too - so he is eating little, and back up to 4 bottles. ::)

We rinse right away and put in the dishwasher which seems to work fine for us :) no suggestions other than you seem to be doing everything you can!
