Hey hun. big hugs to you. we've been through that too. Just wondering. How early have you tried bedtime. When our lo was waking at 2.30 we did a 6 o clock bedtime and it seemed to help. I know its worrying putting them to bed that early but you have nothing to lose if things are so bad already. Imo that is.
Thankyou. I think we've done 6:15-6:20 a couple of times but yeah I do worry he wont sleep over 12 hrs!

The extra nap probablly helped. We've been on 1 nap since 11/12 months and even at 2.5 mine will have the odd CN in the car in the morning (which puts me in a bit of a spin as I worry he won't go for his proper nap), then he still has his regular nap. If they are OT or teething or poorly an extra nap is just what they need.  Prob save you from needing to do an EBT too :)
So we are actually in a 2-1 mess then! We only recently moved from 2 naps to try and fix things although teething might have explained the particularly rough patch we'd hit. Need to read up on 2-1 routines I think. I'll see how tonight goes.
Thank you!
Laura

It can take a long time to get from 2-1 and the odd 2 nap day will hold off OT build up, whilst I personally wouldn’t advise going between 2 and 1 too often because you want him to settle into the one nap routine.  2-1 is messy, ours was very messy.  When there is OT you only really have two options, an extra day sleep (extra or longer nap) or an extra night sleep (EBT or ilater WU if they will tck on and if you don't have to wake them to get to the CM), they need to catch up somewhere yk. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's only a couple of days and then you can get back onto the one nap routine, push the nap later and see if he is less OT by night to try to stop those NWs.
hugs. I was an exhausted wreck through the 2-1 and had to w2s every 20 mins through his nap to avoid a massive melt down.

So he slept better again last night, 2 nw's and a 6:45 WU

Routine was something like this
Nap 9:30-11:30
Nap 3pm-3:40pm
7pm bed

I don't know what to do now?? he hasn't been fighting any naps or waking up wanting to play. my mum will do what she wants to do today anyway  ::)
i can really see an improvement in him during the day, he's so much happier and has obviously been chronically OT recently

I was an exhausted wreck through the 2-1 and had to w2s every 20 mins through his nap to avoid a massive melt down.

Oh yikes!  :P

If it's working for now I'd go with it.  It's so much better to have a happy LO even if it does mean the 2-1 transition goes on longer and isn't the clean routine you'd like to see.  If in a few days or so he refuses that early nap you could go for 12.00 and let him sleep for as long as he liked to see how he goes on 1 nap again but with the later time.
Enjoy the better mood!

Thanks creations  :)

So yesterday he had a 2hr morning nap and then refused the pm CN, even in the car. I couldn't get him to bed til 7pm so was expecting the worst but it was quite a good night - 1 NW at 11am and then tried to get up for the day at 5:45, resettled (not sure if asleep) til 6:45.
Today I tried 1 nap since I thought he had caught up with OT and starting to get UT with refusing the CN. (I don't think he'd ever refuse the am nap) But he only slept 11:40-13:00!
Tonight he was asleep for 6:45.

My gut feeling now is that OT and teething are our main culprits and that he might better if I follow his cues rather than set times? Trying to push him to 1 nap, while teething too, got him seriously OT

I don't mind having a flexible routine or how long the 2-1 takes - it would be awesome if we could, within reason, fit his 12-14 hrs in to suit us  ;D

Still unsure exactly how I'm going to manage the next few days but feel better for having more sleep (just need ds1's eczema under control so he doesn't wake me crying with that  :() oh and O started walking finally today....cue a developmental leap sleep regression? I hope not!

You might have already been through the developmental sleep regression ? With mine it's usually sleep goes awful and then the new skill pops out, rather than the other way around. Although walking could disrupt him, yeah, if he stands up in his cot when he is supposed to be asleep (mine never did).
Oh the joy of toddlers!

We found it hard to distinguish the difference sometimes. Its only through tooth appearing that proved it lol.

Thankyou for the replies  :)

Things have improved a lot with 2 nap days. He's doing 1 x 2nr, 1 x 40min and 10hrs at night. EWs aren't quite so bad.

Unfortunately he's never slept well, I don't think it was developmental recently, he's been standing and cruising and climbing for months but just wouldn't independently walk.things probably got a lot worse due to OT and teething. He actually sttn last night  :D but now i realise this morning that he's got a temp and under the weather so we'll have to ride that out and see where we go from there.
