Waking every 30 mins at night :(
« on: September 04, 2013, 07:37:48 am »
Not sure if this is in the right place but I'm convinced I must be doing the EASY routine wrong, for the past 2 weeks our lo is 6 months and has been waking every 30 mins at night, previously he slept from 7 til 7. He's just dropped a bottle so I'm wondering if I should attempt a dream feed but he's now eating 3 big meals a day so surely he's not hungry? Our days are sometimes a bit muddled if we're out but I generally try to get him to nap every 2-2.5 hours. The past couple of days have looked similar to this:

6:00 - Awake
7:00 - Bottle
8:00 - Breakfast
8:15 - Nap
8:50 - Awake
10:40 - Nap
11:35 - Awake
12:00 - Bottle
13:00 - Lunch
14:15 - Nap
15:15 - Awake
17:00 - Bottle
17:15 - Nap
17:45 - Awake
18:00 - Dinner
19:30 - Bottle + Bed

Is there anything obviously wrong with this? I'm feeling a little down after all we've been through with his reflux when he was younger and it seeming like we've cracked it and finally getting some decent sleep we're back at square one again. My aunt suggests a couple of really late nights will get him sleeping properly again but I'm worried it'd just mess the whole routine up.

Any help or advice will be greatly received :)

If you'll keep him up late at night you might be creating more problems for yourself. You'll still have NW, probably an EW and a very tired baby :(.

I do think that there is a pretty easy fix for it all as it seems his A times are very short for his age and he is also having too many naps a day. He should be going through the 3-2 transition now which is only possible when A times are around 3h, which is what you should be aiming for right now.
But don't jump to that, he'll get OT. You can increase his A times gradually, by 10-15min every 3-4 days till you are getting better naps (1.5-2h) or when you are at about 3h A time.
You can read about it more here: All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months
HTH :)

I've spent today completely by his side to make sure I can get decent nap times and so far he had a 1 1/2 half nap at 8:15 and has just woke from almost a 2 hour nap, he went down at 12.15.

I've found 2.5 hours is the max I can keep him up at the moment, he went into complete meltdown before his nap.

I'm now confused about the next nap though, he definitely cant go till bedtime and should be ready for another sleep just before 5?

Then you would do a CN. Like I said before he will only be able to get rid of it when his A times are more like 3h.
Babies hate it when we increase A times but at the same time they needs us to do it for them sometimes. I know it seems as if he can't handle more right now, that's why we do things gradually, 3-4 days is the time it takes a baby to get used to a new A time and we do it by only 10-15min so they don't get OT.

Bit of an update:

Yesterdays EASY

A - 6:00
E - 6:30
S - 8:15
A - 9:45
E - 11:00
S - 12:15
A - 14:15
E - 16:00
CN - 16:30
A - 17:00
E - 18:00
E- 19:20
S - 19:30

So last night he went to bed as usual and we didn't hear from him till 1:50, at which point I made him a bottle and he slept till 4am and was up again at 5am, then wass up this morning at 5:45.

This isn't as bad as it was but may just be a fluke.

I'm worried because I need to go out today at 12:30 and there's no chance he'll get that 2 hours sleep.

There are always off days, tomorrow is a new day.
I do think that the restlessness in the early morning is because he is UT and when his A times are higher it will be fixed or at least better than it is now.
