13 week old waking up at 3:30 am consistently
« on: September 08, 2013, 12:13:58 pm »
Hi,
My 13 week old went through growth spurt almost 2 weeks ago while we were on a trip abroad and returned 1 1/2 weeks ago where she ate consistently every 3 hours throughout day/night. She slept a lot in the day and night during trip abroad because of the hot weather, I believe.  I started EASY training about 1 week ago.  I noticed that she has been waking up consistently around 3:30 a.m. I am wondering if this is not related to hunger.  I feed her and she eats well, but tonight I gave her pacifier and she was able to go back to sleep.  I just introduced the pacifier 3 days ago to help her fall asleep during the daytime naps and that has helped tremendously (along with the 4S rituals). She is exclusively breastfed but given pumped breast milk in a bottle 1-2x/day (4 oz/day in past few days-previously 3 oz). She eats consistently every 3 hours during the day.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi there and welcome to BW!

At this age, it's very common for babies to wake several times throughout the night to eat.  At this age, if they have gone more than 3-4 hrs at night without a feed, I would feed first and then put the Lo back in their crib.  If she's settling with a paci, that can be fine, just watch that the paci doesn't become a prop.

Thanks for your reply!  You were right, she was hungry.  She is starting to eat at varied times between 2:30-4 a.m.

There is a big gs around the 3 mo mark and again around 4 mo.  Make sure the DT feeds are proper feeds but keep in mind that nt feeds may still be needed.  Hang in there!
