introducing baked milk products?
« on: September 10, 2013, 18:22:37 pm »
DD will be 1 on the 25th of Sept.  We are struggling with food as she has mild dysphagia with penetration.  It's a struggle enough to get her to eat, let alone figure out what to give her.  We recently decided to try a baked milk product in hopes of expanding the menu.  We gave her a waffle.  She has had a bad diaper rash on her bum but I'm not sure if that started before or after the waffle.  When I changed her diaper this morning, it seems like there was a bit of mucous in it (She's on AA formula), and the stool was more yellowish rather than the normal green we see.

I've request a stool card to test for occult blood.  I guess I'm wondering whether or not a waffle was the best choice to start with.  Would it have been better to start with yogurt?  DD pretty much refuses to eat from a spoon (no spoon aversion - I think she would prefer to feed herself).

Thoughts?

The way the NHS told us to do it was processed milk first - like in shop bought biscuits etc. Then cooked dairy - must be cooked for 30 mins or longer. Then things like custard, rice pudding then yoghurts/butter.

Based on that, we did give 'processed' milk.  It's store bought waffles.  Would you agree?

Just checked the list as did it from memory before and that would seem ok. Things like brioche, pastry, scones are on there. Tried to add list as photo but not working I am afraid  :P

Waffles are only in the iron for a couple of minutes. That might not be long enough for the heat to alter the milk proteins enough to tolerate.

Waffles are generally made with batter poured onto a waffle iron and cooked for maybe 3-5 minutes. About the same time as pancakes, I think - I haven't had either for many years so I forget! LOL But definitely nowhere near half an hour. :)

Ugh!  So will it take 3 weeks for the milk protein (if any) to leave her system?  How long do we wait before trying bread instead of the waffle?
