Feeding only 5 bottles should I be giving more formula per bottle
« on: September 13, 2013, 14:45:14 pm »
My 11 week old baby has been taking a 5 1/2 oz bottle and lately he sleeps from after his last bottle which is around 8 pm until 630-7 am and then he eats every 3 hours. Prior to him sleeping through the night he was getting 6 bottles which was 33 oz but now he's only getting 5 bottles which is under 28 oz. should I be increasing his bottles to 6 oz?  I did that this morning for his first bottle but now he slept passed the 3 hours and now I am feeding him at 4 hours.

Is he draining the bottles? If he is then you need to add another oz to his bottles. With bottle feeds there should be a bit left in the bottle so that you know he has finished because he is full and not just because the bottle is empty.

A lot of bottle fed babies got to 4 hour feeds before 4 months, so you do need to increase bottles to make sure their intake doesn't drop as feeds space out. Your nights sound fantastic though!
