Random days when EASY is thrown off with a 4.30-5.00 am feed!
« on: September 21, 2013, 14:47:16 pm »
So my four month old twin girl are well established on a four hour easy routine that looks something like this:
E 06.30
A 07.30
S 08.30
Y
E 10.30
A 11.30
S 12.30
Y
E 14.30
A 15.30
S CN 16.00-17.00
A
E 18.30
A bath book bed
S 19.30-20-00

DF 11.00

Very occasionally they will wake too early to start the day (eg 4.30) and I am unable to resettle them to hang on for a feed so I feed them. The only trouble is that then they wake at 06.30-07.00 to start the day as normal but they are not hungry. So what do you do in this situation? It happened this morning to me and I waited until 07.30 to feed them at which point they took a couple of ounces each, so I ended up topping them up until they had had around 3.5 ounces each, at which point it 08.30 and they were both screaming for a nap. So I put them down but at around the one hour mark they could not be resettled into their usual two hour nap so now they are up. Only hungry for and ounce or two... Overtired for a usual activity time and not fed well enough to nap for two hours at the next nap...
I hope it all resets itself by the end of the day but today is going to be very difficult...
So what do you all do if this happens to you?

I breastfed so it was a bit different, but if they are not hungry for their first feed of the day I would suggest just offering a small feed (oz or two) when they wake at 4.30/5am and then start your day as normal at 6.30am.  If they really need a full feed at that time to settle (not at all unreasonable to need a night feed at four months) then I would do as you did and feed them part way through A time ie AEAS pattern instead of EAS.  Or would they sleep in longer than 6.30am on those days you feed them?  Instead of waking them you could just start EAS from when they wake?  Like you say though it usually resets itself by the end of the day :)
