How much A time after aft nap of 30 min? 3-2 Transition
« on: October 04, 2013, 21:59:17 pm »
Hello,
I am in the middle of a 3-2 Transition with spirited 6 1/2 mth old.  Have been 1 week without CN, and it's a challenge!!  My question is how much A time after a 30/40 min afternoon nap?  He woke at 2.10??  He won't make it until bedtime and if he is up to long before bedtime I seem to get EW.  Should I CN or early bedtime?  And what time should I do them??

DAy so far:
WU:6.30
S:9-10.45
E/A:10.45-1.35
S: 1.35-1.55; 2-2.10
E:2.10

It's 4 right now, and I don't know what to do!!! CN at 4.30 for 15 min?

Thx!!

You can try for the cn and if he doesn't take it, i would be putting mine to bed by 5.15-5.30pm. Is he good at tacking on?

Put to bed at 6.55.  Still not sleeping, had to intervene twice, going in for third.  Guess CN was wrong choice :'(

Back again!  We had an early bedtime last night of 6PM with a 3.5 hr awake before.  Had to settle twice but was down until 12AM, so fed him.  Then he woke every 20 min from 4AM on.  I finally fed him at 5.30 as I needed some rest.  Is this EW?  Is this normal with Early bedtime??

Plus my other issue is short PM nap.  Do other people have this issue?  Great AM nap 1.5-2 hrs, but a stinky 30 min PM nap with NO hope of resettling ( and I have become the resettling queen;))

We are going on 6.5 mths, and 2.5 A time fist thing in morning, then 2.75 and 2.75-3.5 before bed depending how things go.  Should I be changin up the A time?

Sorry to hear you had a rough night... unfortunately they often can get OT and EWs during the transition period. It may have been the A time before bed was too long :-\.

We also had the issue with shorter pm nap and with us, I had to stretch A times to get mine to nap longer (3hrs). Some LOs though naturally take a shorter pm nap, especially if the morning nap is too long. I don't let mine sleep longer than 1.5hrs in the morning as we almost always get a shorter pm nap if I do... but I would try upping the A before you start cutting naps. Our A's are 3 hrs before each nap at the moment and it seems to be working well.

How did you go yesterday with naps and night?

Today was pretty good.  AM nap was  only 1.25, but PM nap was 1.5 (first time ever)!!  Going to bed is not so smooth.  He had 3.25 before bed, and always wakes 30 minutes after (always has), then we resettled 3 times, which we usually have to...then he hopefully be good till the wee hrs.  Is the rough bedtime from OT too??

Excellent news on naps but yes, I would say waking up 30mins into night sleep is OT :(...which is why I think its really important to space out the naps a bit so that the A before bedtime isn't too long and just 15mins may not seem much but it can be. I hope he sleeps well for you tonight  :-*

Alright, so last night was OK.  Put to bed at 6.20.  Resettle 5x then fed at 10.45 and 3.45.  Today he had a 1.5 hr AM nap after 2 hr and 50 min hr A (needed to be resettled at 35 min mark, took 10 min ).  PM nap was 35 min too after a 2 hr and 55 min A, but didn't resettle very well at all.....acted like he wanted to get up.  I tried to resettle for 1/2 hr, he finally dosed off, but only 5 min by himself, so I APed the rest (got 1.5 hr h nap but likely shouldn't AP?? And one eye was never completely closed so can't say it was a deep sleep)!!  Tonight I will only have 2.75 prior to bedtime see if it makes a difference.....  any advice?  Or just keep on?

Does he know how to go to sleep on his own? When you resettle what is it that you do? I would probably work on 1 A at a time but that's just me.

Which A time would you increase to 3 hrs first?

He can fall asleep on own, BUT with soother, so not really on his own:/  he needs the soother for his naps, and early evening, then spits it out until morning.  Once in awhile if he wakes before I think he should at night I might plug him in.  When I resettle him, I hold my arms over his arms (not swaddled as he hates it intensely) and shh.  If that doesn't work, I hold till close to asleep, put back down and hold arms.  If this doesn't work, and I am desperate, I hold until asleep (but not that often).

Is it time to get rid of soother?  He doesn't like lovey, or thumb or fingers.  Soother has seemed to be my only route with this guy.  DS1 sucked his thumb, and I so thought DS2 would too.......

I worked on the 1st A - actually because of the school drop off, she just had to stay up a little longer until we'd get home as she stopped falling asleep on the car and she kinda extended her own A time that way and then I remember the last A was also fairly easy to stretch (3hrs max) and then I slowly started working on the middle A :)

With regards to the soother - hmmm if he needs you to replug it then maybe it is a prop. Do you think he would be able to replug on his own? Is that something he is showing signs of doing? If you do decide to wean the paci, he might take a lovey instead of start sucking his fingers or he may not need to suck anything at all...

BAck again!  Morning nap was going great after 2 hr 30 min A time.  Afternoon nap always required settling after 3 hr A time.  DS2 seemed to want to get up after 30 min wide awake likely OT? Last A time is usually 3 hrs too, and usually have to resettle a few times before he really doses off.....

I was trying to stretch the morning one out from 2 hrs and 30 mins to 2 hrs and 45 mins, but am getting Short AM naps as a result.....

Any advice?  Should I leave morning A 2 hr  and 30 min, or hang in for a few days with 2 hr 45 min and see if he gets used to it?  Or is this starting an OT circle??
