Do you and your toddler have any favourite board games?

Our faves are Snakes and Ladders, Guess Who (maybe a bit older), Connect 4 (again the strategy is a bit older but still fun), Twister (hilarious), Tummy Ache and all those Orchard Toys games like Tell the Time.

Spotty Dogs is a great Orchard Games 'first try' type thing. Both my kids can play that one, even together!

Candy Land is a great first board game as it uses colours to know which square to move to instead of counting.

Not a board game either, but I just started playing memory with F this week and she's really enjoying it. We have a set of Winnie the Pooh cards which we use for it, we are up to playing with about 10 matching pairs atm.

Orchard games are a big hit here! We have Dotty Dinosaurs, crazy chefs, the shopping game, the flower pot game, doodle bugs, where's my cup cake and one of the jigsaws! The shopping list game is good because you can buy different packs to supplement it.

Like Liz said, my two will play together now as the games are simple but fun. They are also made of sturdy card so haven't disintergrated like the bits in some of our games have. They are also a good price and make good birthday presents!

Some great ideas, thanks. I'm going to look at all of them properly.

We've got the orchard games Tell the Time and Crazy Chefs.

Any recommendations of a particular snakes and ladders?  I think he'd like that.  We have played a few roll the dice and move the piece type games which were just pages from kid's magazines. he liked those, I need something more durable and perhaps with a bit more to do.

Not tried memory game in a while so I'll have another go.

He's been enjoying dominoes and two dice bingo, I can just see him itching for more games :)
I think he'd like connect 4 too.  And it would be great to play Guess Who, I wonder if he'd 'get it' yet...maybe over the coming year.

They don't really get connect 4 until later either - my 2 end up fighting over where they are putting the pieces - and they certainly can't stand it if another kid blocks their row. They can't 'see' diagonals either. DD just posts them in, and enjoys that, but it is actually a remarkably frustrating game round here!!

DS does understand now, and I guess he has since 4+, but DD, sigh!

Maybe I'll get one just for the fun of posting the pieces in the slots. With only one child there is no competition, just us playing together, perhaps less frustrating as it will be geared in his favour.  I saw a huge outdoor connect 4 at the nursery he'll be starting in about 6 months which I'd forgotten about until this thread - he liked posting those pieces too (bit less fiddly but it was so big that made it hard in a different way).

He's definitely into playing games that involve number dice and taking turns so I think snakes and ladders will be great.

yes H loves Snakes and Ladders and ours has Ludo on the reverse which he also likes.
we also have crazy chefs and the shopping game and pop to the shops which I would say is more for around 4 years?

We also play memory games. H has a pack of Octonaut cards which are fun to do that with..
Tinkerbell - those games look amazing...H would love them!

Love the look of thr Richard Scarry games!! We are huge Scarry fans hete, but DS is 5.5....are the games too young for him do you think?

Ravensburger and HABA both make some "my first board games" which DS liked at 3ish. Worth taking a browse on amazon for them, I am not sure how available they are outsidevof Germany.  I will have a look and post when I am not on my tablet, linking is hard!
