Routine tweak at 12mths - 4 to 3 milk feeds??
« on: October 24, 2013, 11:19:17 am »
Can someone please suggest how milk feeds fit in to a routine once you go from 4 to 3 feeds?

Current routine at almost 12mths is:
A and BF  7am
Breakfast 8am
S 10.30-11.45
Bf 11.45
Lunch 1pm
S 3.15-4pm
Bf 4pm
Dinner 6pm
Bf 7.30

Have 2 older kids but can't for the life of me remember how our routine changed at this age.

Thanks x

DD had gone to 1 nap by then, so it was easier to fit in it.  We used to do BF and lunch around 11.30/12 so that DS (particularly) was in bed for his nap around 12/12.30.

Thanks for your responses.

I guess I am after which mIlk feed dropped (12 or 4pm) and when did you subsequently do lunch and milk?

She is almost at 1 nap which will make it easier but until then she is ready for 3 BFs so would like to drop 1 of our feeds as I get ready to wind down the BFing.

Thanks

Used to breaki WU bottle then solids hour later, snack around 10am then lunch 11.15/11.30 depending on sleep then nap then milk 2pm ish then solids 5pm ish bottle at BT mine gave up afternoon bottle about 10/11 months but he loved solids and just had 8oz WU and BT bottles. I just went by him really and after a week of not being too fussed at afternoon bottle I just swapped for a snack.
Like u say when your on 1 nap it makes the day easier to fit stuff in and we sometimes did half lunch before nap at 11am then half after at say 1.30 ish.

We didn't go down to 3 BFs until after DD was on 1 nap, as I recall.

Which one would you rather wean first?  Or is she less interested in one than the other now?

I would drop the feed after the second nap because then you can just feed on wake up from the first nap and it will just naturally get later in the day as the nap does and then you can just stick with that when you switch to one nap.

You can either do a snack such as a yogurt and fruit or some cheese for example when she wakes up from nap 2 or you could bring dinner forwards and perhaps offer a cup of cows milk on wake up from her second nap.

I found it increasingly difficult to fit two BFs and dinner into that last A time as mine started not wanting the BT BF. When we dropped the afternoon BF and moved dinner forwards it meant he had time to get hungry again after dinner and he would take a full feed at BT. If you're looking to wind down the BFing soon though you might not want that and a snack on wake up followed by the current dinner time might work better for you.

Thank you very much for your replies, just what I was after. Hoping to wind down the BFing in the next 6 weeks or so. Fed my 2 boys till 13.5mths so that has always been the aim with DD. Just kept giving the 4 feeds as it is what we have become used to but she eats so much in terms of solids that I am sure she doesn't need the 4 feeds. 3 feeds will more than likely mean she is drinking the same amount but over less feeds.

Looking forward to having some freedom ;-)
