8 mo EW again, A time push or OT?
« on: November 04, 2013, 06:30:11 am »
Hi,

We have had good WU time for around 2 & half months since we moved to 2 naps.

We were having BT 7pm & wake up between 6.30am & 7am (sometimes we would have to wake her)

The last week dd has been waking between 4.30 & 5am most mornings. Not crying but more shouting, sometimes she will go back to sleep within 30/40 mins then sleep until 7, most of the time i have left her until 6am & then got up. Yesterday she woke at 4.50am then i webt quiet but woke for the day at 5.50am. This morning she woke at 5.50am. So got up at 6.10 as started getting loud.

She *usually* has poo'd when we get up. Is she waking to poo? Or poo'ing because she is awake?

Our day yesterday looked like this:

Wu 5.50 gu 6.10

Nap 9.30 - 11

Nap 2.20 - 3.45

Bt 7pm

She usually wakes at 35 mins in afternoon nap but re-settles after 10 mins which makes me wonder if OT

Should i try & push A times to 3hr 30? Or bring it back a little to 3hrs? I aim for 3hr 15 a normaly.

Thanks!
Jody

What was your routine before things started going a bit wonky?

Is she teething at the moment?  Or have you introduced new foods or an extra meal recently?

Sorry was so brief last post as was rushing!

A 'normal' day was like this:

6.45 wu

E: 7.15 bottle - 8.15 breakfast porrige
A: 3hr15
S: 10.00 - 11.30
E: 12 - lunch solid 2pm bottle
A: 3hr (usually v sleepy so have to pd at 3hr most if time)
S: 2.30 - 3.45
E: 4.30 solid
A: 3hrs/3hrs 15

Bottle at 6.45

Bed at 7/7.15 & asleep

Had to drop ti 3 bottles about 2 weeks ago as she wasnt wanting the 3rd bottle in the afternoon, so she is taking more formula now that i have spread them out, if that makes sense.

Looking at it in easy format like that, i think she may be ready for a A increase? I dont know! Why when they just get settled, do they switch things up again! Ha

If she has no teeth at 8 months then that would be my number one culprit for EWs.  Have you tried a dream meds at 2/3am ish?

Her routine looks good and A times appropriate, though some might possibly be having just a touch longer at 8 months.  How long has she been on those A times for?

I have not tried giving meds, even when she wakes up as she is not crying right away, so its never crossed my mind do give meds! Will definately give it a try!

Yesterday she spent the day with grandma & had 2 rubbish naps & wu at 5.30 so had to give her a cat nap at 5, which meant bedtime closer to 8, she still did 10 hrs and woke at 5.55am.

Going to try the meds dreamfeed really hope it helps x

I would try to avoid a catnap at this age - early BT is probably a better bet as having the third nap will tend to rob night sleep :)

She had only had 2 other 30 min naps so had only slept 1hr 30 all day. She was shattered by 5 & this is far to early for bed. Its never happebed before & hopefully wont again!

She was up at 4.50 and resettled at 5.30 & up for day at 7am today. Didnt give meds as dont like to give it unless i know for certain she is in pain... Im going to see how we get on over the nxt week.

I love early BT!  Every time I have done it I have always been glad.  The trick is to get LO down for the night before they are OT.  That way (in my experience) you will usually get a long night.  If you don't go early enough though then LO is OT going down and will do a short night, so WU moves earlier and you get in a mess :P

I will definatley remember that!

We had a 6.25 wu this morn! Halelujah!

Yesterday i was wondering if she was possibly needing more awake AND a little less day sleep, she gradually built up to 3 hrs day sleep which i thought was great but thibkibg about it, this was when the ew's started.

It sort of worked out like this yesterday:

Nw/ew - 4.50 to 5.30 & settled back to sleep i woke at 7am

7am wu

3hrs 15 awake

Nap 1 - 10.15 - 11.20

4hrs awake (i did not push this she just was happy & not tired, eventually i thought i would try a nap)

Nap 2 - 3.20 & i woke at 4pm as i like bedtime to be 7pm & didnt want it to get too close.

Bedtime 6.50pm

Sleep all night. She obviously needs that A increase so will see how we get on today. She is currently having 1st nap 10am & will let sleep for as ling as she wants (well, cap at 1hr30) & see how we go with A this aft, but i would assume if similar to yesterday, would be around 3.15/3.30 but will wake at 4.15. As she was zonked at bt yeaterday.

What do u think? Just a fluke yesterday? I hope not!

Let's hope it wasn't!  At this age we frequently had one long nap and one of 40/45 mins, not what I was aiming for but usually what we ended up with and nights (for the most part) were ok :)

Thanks jesse mum. It appears we have solved the issue! For now! She has been doing the long am short pm nap as you said in your last post! Its working great! & will fit round dropping ds off at nursery & picking him up, when he starts in jan. Although she will have probably shufted around again by then!

Thank you x
