Milk supply difference?
« on: November 04, 2013, 19:59:16 pm »
I've noticed in the last few days that my right breast seems to produce more milk than my left, judging purely on the size difference between them and how long he feeds for on each.
I've been feeding off both equally but I'm a little worried.  I want him to get lots of milk from both!  I produce a lot of milk typically so I'm not sure what's going on or how to fix it.  Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it or if I need to?  He's always been a 'One breast at a time' kind of baby but when he nurses off the left I'm not sure he's getting enough.  My DS is 12 weeks old.

It is perfectly normal to have one breast larger which produces more milk and LO normally favours that side. In fact I would be interested to know if there is anyone who does *not* have this. I think we all do.
Assuming there is no pain or hardness that has come on overnight that might indicate a blocked duct or such then you don't need to do anything about it or worry about it in the slightest. :)

Yup, I have the same (right side as well, I am right handed so always figured lo was more comfy because I was!). Now that I think on it all 3 girls preferred the right side.

My RH side always seemed to have more milk, but is my smaller one.  When it comes to BF, size doesn't really matter :)

Oh I don't think my preferred side was bigger normally it just seemed it because it was fuller with the milk.

Thank goodness!  Thanks ladies, it's a huge relief to know that this is completely normal.  ;D
