When to drop the nap 2yr 8 months
« on: November 06, 2013, 22:59:21 pm »
I am unsure what to do with Alfie's sleeping. I have a 1 year who's wakes anytime between 5-7am so if it's early I think he disturbs Alfie before 6, however whether Alfie's naps or not he wakes at 6am regardless. I have tried nnd and bt at 6.30pm he slept until 6am, great night. He was having 1.5-2 hour naps but started capping them at 1.5hr as it pushed bt to 8 and I wanted him in bed earlier. So with 1.5 hour nap he was in bed by 7.30pm and awake by 6am. What can I do if anything to push wake up? He has a gro clock but doesn't take any notice. He can't get out of his room just hear him getting up banging around. I tried dropping the nap but with work etc it was hard to have a consitent bt to beat the to and he became very very tired. Shall I just carry on with 1.5 hr naps and bt at 7.30pm and put up with the 6am wake ups?

When will I know when he is napping to much, I'm guessing ew? Bt refusal? Or shall I just drop the nap completely and aim for a good 12 hour night and push through the ot?

Tia x

Hi,

We aren't there yet but this link might help re: answering somebody your questions:

The 1-0 transition...Advice and Tips to help you through.

Re: the gro- clock, I would preserve  with it. If he's wdking and 6? Stick
I'd go with 6.15 'up time' for a while and once he's used to that, add an extra 10/15mins on and again hold for a not tilHe gets used to that - keep going until you get to where you want to be,

Hth and you get some btdt advice soon x

Hi there,
Does he seem like he's getting enough sleep overall ie does he seem tired or well rested when he gets up and what's his mood like?
At this age it's not uncommon for LO's nights to shorten a bit until they drop the nap, so you might not be able to get a later WU just with Gro clock alone.
I think at this stage you could either just stick with 10.5hr nights and  1.5 hr nap (if he is happy with it, why change?) but poss move BT later by say 15 mins to move WU later (but you have to decide what you prefer, earlier BT or later WU), or you could try capping nap a bit more to see if that will lengthen his night for you. Does he mind if you wake him from naps? (Some LOs hate it).
For us, we preferred to cap L's nap (until she dropped it) to keep nights as long as poss (she also got more total overall sleep like that).
What do you think?
Other option like hena said is to move Gro clock later and treat it as 'up' time not wake time , so you get more time in bed. But if he wakes you once he's awake anyway, even if he stays in his room, then maybe that's not your preferred solution?
